  1. f**k them salukis stick to the deerhounds there the only dog for you boss
  2. one of the lads i hunt with had one up to yesterday when it died at 13years old one of the best dogs ive seen great kick off game as hell and could stay like a saluki were on the lookout for another at the moment but very tuff to get working stock the dog was very steady compared to some salukis and very obiedient great dog he will be missed
  3. sloughi greyhound one of the best lamping dog ive seen and a beardie cross border not bad on sitters of hedging mad keen
  4. just wondering if anyone knows of any saluki lurcher breeders in northern ireland mate of mine picked one up and its by all acconts of top breeding and ive seen it working really well will add pics soon
  5. brilliant article read it a few years ago and it made me consider trying to compile a similar document for deerhounds its in progress but it will be a while before it will be at a stage of that quality as i lack the knowledge on showing presently as quite simply i hate shows and attend them very irregularily however i will aim to solve this and portay the ever growing undesired distinction between show and hunting stock ,,,,,
  6. lovely sized bitch you have there mate tend to come about the same size over here in ireland hows her stamina
  7. as you say a 3/4 G 1/4 Deerhound is a lot better than a big heavy, slow turning first cross which i found didn't have much stamina probably as they have to lug all that Wight around with them. If i had to have a first cross it would be a bitch as their a bit better . not if you have a quality hunting deerhound they work great in ireland and so do the deerhounds but maybe its different over with you good hunting
  8. not if you have the right deerhound 3/4 can be a bit soft on rough ground and lack a bit stamina but everyone to there own
  9. hows it going yeah seen this cross at every type of game and find them very usefull a jack of all trades ,,,, any ive seen or had done all quarry ,,,, some can be great hare dogs others others better on the large stuff but ive yet to see a bad one in saying that all have been breed from our working deerhounds which get as much as the lurchers and from quaility irish coursing greyhounds i wouldnt be as worried about the greyhound as the deerhound in terms of quality it just happened that the greyhounds were quality whatever happens ensure the deerhound is a good worker there is a litter like t
  10. Thats what there training those dogs to do and what you condemn them for! Hunting. you think thats hunting and you acuse people like me of exaggerating its the like of you with your stupid ideas on hunting taking all measures to get a dog going and misconceived morals on cruelty that got hunting banded by putting illogical reasoning to an obviously cruel practice and then try to compare it to coursing hares with muzzles that generally cannot be caught and i dont know maybe you have to make it this easy for your dogs to catch something but i dont they either have it or they dont when would
  11. how about hunting hares in ireland doxhope, with dogs that cant pick up and make a quick clean kill,is that ok?? what are you about hunting hares in ireland

  13. i like to give a young dog an advantage but this is a joke puts a bad image of hunting out especially to antis ...............good hunting to all
  14. theres a bit of a difference in leaving bagged game while tied by a rope and hunting have you any distinction in your own head between what hunting is and just being outright cruel this is only necessary if the dogs are not up for it simple as if i needed to this to get my dogs going id sooner shoot them as they would be useless scrubs
  15. well deerhounds needed to take red deer either wounded by inadequate guns and in need of being pulled down or taken solely with dogs there was no rope attached to the deers leg incase it got away i see the need to enter a young dog with an experienced ones and that is generally the way i do it ..... but i certainly dont see the need if the dogs were any good of leaving them at a halftame wolf on a rope....... just because something has been done for hundreds of years doesnt make it right thats not even an argument
  16. thats quite a sweeping statement to say as you have not seen every dog hunt including my own hunting deerhound or his father
  17. really nice looking bitch theres a first cross on the coursing deerhound thread my mates bitch i hunt with him all through the year absolute cracker unrealkick off and determination the deerhound dog she was breed off was a good hare dog and good on everything put in front of him in his day
  18. a handy sized proven working deerhound over a greyhound bitch will generally produce a good all round lurcher maybe not the absolute best on any one quarry but a jack of all trades and the only limit being the amount of work you can put in front of them,,,if you want a fen dog get a saluki cross bull for foxetc,,,,but if you want a dog to take 10 or 20 rabbits in a night then course a hare or 2 in bad ground or other the following day and still be game for a fox on the way home then the first cross is always a good choice but they can take quite a bit longer than the average to get going an
