  1. ya not to bad we'll have to get the plans ready for next seasons run
  2. cheers ya its a good way of getting people together with the dogs and its well controlled if theres a large number of people but the dogs myself shanehound and one or two others not on the site have are expected to do everything the big dog in the first photo and later on the fox regularily will hunt up and catch fox and this is a great spectacle to see this is one way to get people together with the hounds and is a good form of pest control as well as a test for the dogs
  3. cheers mate good to get the dogs
  4. this is an experienced dog and his offspring a bitch showing her how its done she showed good promise the event is generally ran around december january to avail of the low growth this year the growth was still quite thick due to the very mild winter we got here in ireland all pictures are taken in the south of ireland on ground with full permission
  5. hi all ive rooted some pics out again at the moment once a year an event in the midlands of ireland is organised for purebred working deerhounds the idea being to encourage people to get out with there hounds and to allow people to aim to get the dogs fit and working in the run up to these meets we hope to expand this and similar meets in the coming year so a few words about the hunt itself we aim to pick out a variety of covers and these are hunted generally with foxhounds people are positioned outside at various points with a deerhound on slip one dog is slipped per fox unless a dog i

  7. sum dogs roan they take hare on dat land ? id like to put that question to you
  8. hi steve they range in size my own dog is 30tts and the bitch is 28 wouldnt want them any bigger if possible but even working dogs often reach 32 and bitches 30 some and in this day of show deerhounds that is still quite a small size compared to these show giants for working i like to keep them as close to 28tts for bitches and 30tts for dogs a bit smaller again doesnt bother me the original standard was 26 bitches and 28 dogs so i am working to revive this as at that time the dogs would have been closer to the original working stock shanehounds dogs are pretty much the same height the first
  9. sorry lads pictures are not working well and im rushing out but ill get them up properly tomorrow shanehound will be able to talk ya through them as we keep the hounds together mind you he cant get pictures up im not much better and most of them are his so ill let him do the talking talk soon

  11. nice one gaz ya with our help there on the way back all the dogs are tested as one would a lurcher testing them against lurchers and deerhounds throuhout the season no dog that is not up to grade is kept ie they are rehomed to pet homes and nutered its the only way we can keep these great hunting dogs going theres about 4 of us who are all passionate about the breed as a working dog. in general the bitches are better on hare and rabbit due to their size and the dogs better on bigger game mind you the bitches are generally very capable at this too although the breed do lack the take off ge

  16. p hammel bred bitch and coursing deerhoun
  17. i have seen saluki crosses with a high percentage of greyhound do well in ireland quick kickoff gets them in and the saluki in the makeup does the rest very sticky and hard to shake once they get onto the hare in any fields from what ive seen, also seen a saluki cross destroyed by a first cross deerhound greyhound bitch top coursing bitch mind you in a massive field not to say this cross is more suitable as it is widely thought not to be but to show that while a degree of generalisation can be made of various crosses its not always that way as for irish hares they are a good test for any do
  18. think you will recognise this bitch shanehound of hammels breeding old january picture
