Whin i hate to be frank but i am very proud that we are getting them back to be where they need to be i am a young enthusiast i am 24 years old and have worked these dogs for over half my life and i am proud of what we have done so give it a break and give us a chance to enjoy a fantastic hunting dog which is growing in popularity some of which is due to our hard work I wont be responding further to you as you clearly must have been interfered with by a deerhound cross or something i enjoy reading the site generally however if you worked dogs as much as you spoke about i doubt you would

3 lads still working the deerhound and getting the results after personally 12 years of breeding and working these hounds its a shame that in general the press is bad but it is deserved the drive has been pushed out by the show ring and what was a great celtic working hound our own type of hound for our own country is about to be lost and we must import saluki's and the like which i admire and think are a great dog but we are losing our own breed three normal lads from ireland have been working on getting the breed back hunting them and driving on not worried about shows in fact

Im very surprised to hear this..I bred from so called "working" purebred deerhounds,on two ocassions and produced pure shite. No disrespect but I dont think the young lad needs advice like that. fair enough you got a bad one did you see the deerhound work or just take it was working stock sometimes you have to be care full and do a little research especially when dealing with a breed that can in some cases be badly bred ive hunted and bred my own 1st cross and pure breeds for 12 years and my lurchers will do all required my pure bred deerhounds have determination and ability -

in Ireland handy working deerhound bitch medium coursing greyhound dog never failed me yet however i usually pick a bitch from the litter to keep the size down for the bunnies the choice of the deerhound in this cross is the most important thing for sure ie a purebreed that has taken all quarry you wish to hunt cant beat hybrid vigour in my opinion -
i had a pure breed from him great bitch breed off and have a great dog
-
jim i have a working bred deerhound who most certainly does NOT have greyhound outcross thanks whats the breeding mate any ardkinglas
-
i would think any of my pure deerhounds would put it up to a pure saluki especially on the bigger species breed for the purpose do the job they were made for very well on any terrain not saying they are the best just they can do the job very well day in day out any size ,any terrain

deerhounds do the job once well bred shanehound has the stuff
-
hi shanehound well i hope you have me first on the list this is as far as i am concerned the best working cross available for a very long time both dog and bitch proven AGAIN AND AGAIN i remember the first time i saw the sire hunt i had never been so amazed by his antics immediately informing us of the presence of long ears in the rough field we hunted even though the first cross had no such signals you said theres a hare here hold the lurcher as you did a hare ran past my feet nearly dragged to the ground and i saw the master at work single handed working his hare with such intelligence thr

alco ectolin or any alcohol based rub find it good after a hard days coursing but rarely use it only if i see them stiff about the place does no harm anyway
-

ya if you could find out what coursing competition in ireland it was that'd be great cheers,,, as i know alot of coursing lads in the country and might know who she was ran with
-
hows it going no wouldnt like to see them turning the fox to much once they get into striking distance they should be making as much effort to strike as possible
-
at the time the bitch was only getting going and she hasnt looked back since some need a bit of encouragement and that dog certainly doesnt hold back ya there hounds did a great job pushing in that cover hope to see them in action again soon gona try get another one going down the west hope you can make it down and we'll try replicate the stew
-
no probs lads glad to share i plan to invest in a good camera and this season get some good pics on all sort of game
-
ya its a good way to see dogs out in the day
-
ya mate its hard enough to get pictures but one deerhound is enough at 90 pounds there should be no contest however doubled up is generally the way to get them started after that there should be no looking back ill try find some of one on one
