    flight pond

i would say it was the moon but not 100% sure because i have not seen them flighting in to the pond, i can't see it being over feeding because mallard are greedy and will just eat ,eat, eat ...have they been taking less feed ? , has there been any tractors around flight time thats been working in the fields around the pond, could be fireworks , i have lakes on a leisure park where we shoot geese, ducks on ,come the start of october when the fireworks start going off , it moves them off and is no good to shoot again till mid december when things have quietened down ... but like i sai
  10. i order loads of wildfowling stuff from them each year, i have never had a problem with them....... you can now pay all the tax and dutys on it all before it leave's the us so you dont get charged in the uk ..... you can also change the currency from the us dollar to sterling which is also a good thing ... before it was a nightmare using the converter.......its also some times quicker ordering stuff from them than it is in the uk for deliverys

  15. it was winchester ammunition , i also have had splits down the side of the remington cases , that was one of my main reasons going onto using winchester , but i'm now thinking of going back to remington...... i also forgot to say it has bent the guard a little where the clip fits into the rifle , i would hate to think how bad it could have been if it had been a metal clip ....
  16. well me and a friend planned a night out on the rabbits thursday night with the .17HMRS , well we were in the middle of having one of our best nights ever , when something BAD happened , we just pulled into another grass field to shoot more rabbits , we pulled over to reload the clips up , now i opened up a new box of bullets and put 10 out the box into the clip of which holds 10 ...i then put the clip into the rifle as i have done a thousand times before nothing was done different ... we started off again lamping and one rabbit was picked out for me to shoot , so as i have done ma

  19. sean in the late 70s and early 80s they were used alot on our marshes there is a place on our local marsh that is called box creek , 2 of our well known local wildfowlers dug out 2 big holes and double lined them with ply board annd put lids on them so the silt washed up by the tide would not fill them back up... this was just as i was starting in out but the way the tides run now they are well gone and been covered with mud . never got a chance to use them wish i did tho ..
  20. well after taking 2 very good friends of mine out for a flight down the marsh last night and coming off about half an hour earlier than normal because there was nothing about , then only to see around 500 to 700 hundred pinks go over where we're sat 10 minutes earlier and about 35 yards up was gut wrenching to say the least ..... well i sat at home last night thinking about going back to the same spot from last night , i got the tide book out and worked the tide out and it was only a 5.5 tide and at 2 am .Now its around trip of 50 miles for me to go back to the same spot , so i thought i
  21. well i have received mine today , and what can i say but "WOW" all the picture's are top class , i can't imagine what hard work has gone into this book.. you can tell it has been done with passion .. fantastic photography with some fantastic photo;s of both dogs and hare's i know a very good friend of mine will love the book because there is a nice photo of his bitch that was sadly lost in the field doing what she did best ..... well done mr darcey another top class book , i cant wait for your next one ...
  22. the jounrney down to ..... ... I have to admit I tried to write the post with a bit of humour as I knew you the "duck meister" would read it, thanks for the offers you have been very kind to me and I am enjoying being in the club but I will stick to the old man for now until I have got my "webbed feet". I will tell you where I was, half way to the bailey bridge I think thats what you call it. One of the reasons for my post was to explain from a beginner to wildfowling the excitement of that morning and the lead up to it and even though I have been shooting for over 30 years
  23. its going real well down here sean thanks ,plenty of fowl about about most of my other friend's have been getting amongst them to , there well spread around the wash to .....
  24. your gun will be proofed for steel if its been stamped , dont shoot no more than 1/2 choke through your gun if your using steel ,there is loads of average loads about in steel , but the one with great reviews is the RIO STEEL , i have been using these myself and i have to say they are a good steel cartridge.... when steel first came about alot of the boffins recommend that you should drop 2 shot sizes from what you were using in lead , so if you were using 6 shot drop to 4 shot and you will not go far wrong ....
  25. well its a great read but i nearly washed the screen on the pc with tea when i read some of it .. i'm pleased you made it down and had a good flight but 50 yards out is not far enough , you need a proper fowler to show you the way lol ... send me a text or call me you got my number and we can sort a trip out onto a proper marsh , i will promise to go gentle with you honest , plenty of pinks about at the mo ... and ducks there is about 700 to a thousand on a field 500 yards up the road from my house and there is more coming down from up north every day now , also with this moon on
