yes i also read it .... i remember this happening a few years back and the gate on kirton marsh but we found out who it was , we have had trouble with people shooting from the top of the bank on the reserve at the geese going through , we have now sorted it , i don't know what it is with people this season ....

if you mean geese there has been some good numbers all the way around that side but they are getting hammered both on the foreshore and inland by the farmers and keepers with rockets bangers, and shooting them... they are doing alot of damage on the fields that were sugar beet and have now been drilled with wheat but the beet tops are still showing hence that's why the geese are trying to feed and paddling all the wheat down and just keeping moving on when shot at and have rockets fired over them ..

les on the geese this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wag replied to trentotter's topic in Wildfowling
I was not!!! trying to tell you anything about shooting geese ,and congratulations on shooting hundreds of geese all over the country ..and i mean hundreds ..... all i was saying is there is nothing Wrong with shooting steel at geese over decoys inland or on the foreshore if you know its capabilities . that's all i was saying ... edited to say the yanks have an advantage on us because they have been on steel alot longer than us..... and they have come up with some great steel loads and if i was to be big headed i have shot geese in England , Ireland ,Scotland , Finland ,Sweden -

nothing wrong with steel the yanks have been using it for years , you just have to know it's capabilities and what distance it's effective up to ... with you shooting inland geese you should be getting some good clean kills over decoys , or flighting them ... -
yep no worries , i will get you out there this season ,it's a busy time of the year for me now with my job .it would perhaps be a weekend .... if you want to know anything about south linc's marshes just pm me , i will gladly help if i can ...

HI richie , we have spoke through pm, if you are shooting any of north shore ie butterwick , wrangle, Bennighton , them xot really need a good tide just on dark or at first light . IF your looking to learn about wildfowling on the marshes then I would say through the summer months come down and walk around get to know your tides come at different times to see the tides and what hight they make and remember any wind with a northly in it will make the tides run higher than normal . I am at work at the moment but will get Intouch with you

lol new pair already on way harry -
well i have been on holiday this week so i thought i would get a few flights in down the marsh , i had a look at the tides for the week decided that it would be better later on towards the end of the week with the tides running on dark , i had a couple flights earlier in the week with some good results .. well today the tide was at 16.10 today and a 7.1... which i knew would make the creek tops and it would be ok to sit it out .. i was pushed for time today with getting ready for the farm shoot on friday , i was a bit late getting down to the gate and when i got there , there was about

well!! why not take the time to find a pup from good stock at around 9 to 12 weeks ..... then put the time into it yourself ... so when, or if it does make the grade you can take all the credit yourself and if it does have bad habit's and fails .....it's down to you and no other ... at 8 to 12 months the dog could already have bad habit's and be crap..... also you would not have the same bond with a dog of 8 to 12 months as you would with a 9 to 12 week old pup ....

great write up harry , also a great place to shoot , i have shot Anderson's creek many , many times before with me shooting my very first golden eye there many moons ago ...

-
i have a vast amount of water to shoot over that consits of ponds , rivers , lakes , fen drains , reservorirs , also stubble fields potao fields if the ducks or geese use them , i am fortunate to live in a great area for wildfowl , i dont shoot all this on my own , i have friends who i ask plus land owners come along .. then in return my friends invite me to shoot on there permission , i also costal wildfowl the foreshore and marshes , i travel the country costal wildfowling, i am in a few costal wildfowling clubs around the country .... i also go to sweeden at least once a season
-
sorry perhaps i should of made myself clearer , i did not shoot that amount to my own gun i invite friends ,also the land owner will come and bring a guest .none of the ducks are wasted they are shared around friends ,family and local people nothing is wasted .

No only seen them passing Through. There are some Coming through daily Now.

Which part of the wash do you shoot its a big area ?
-
i have never owned a 4 bore but have used one on a few occasions, they never seemed to float my boat ....but each to there own ......
-
I just use hen birds normally wigeon with just the odd drake bird in . I use a long line with clips. So you can change them when needed . mallard decoys will be cheaper than wigeon and other decoys .i don't know why it is. Another reason i use wigeon is because you can carry more of them .i don't know about other areas but i have herd fowlers going back to old school tactics using silhouettes on the green edges have a look on ebay but your best bet would be to try kev Wilcox at tidepool wildfowling .he just deals in wildfowling equipment .
-
There is a few duck on all the marshes but its the same as shooting in any fowling club you have to put the time in to get the duck . Try starting off on kirton out between the 2 big creeks on the left have a look at your maps you get when you join . IF you get stuck pm me I will give you some more help .
-
the tide table books are only a rough guide , most big tide always seem to run later , i don't know why it is .. it's not really been the weather for fowling this last week, i did get down a couple of times early part of the week bagged myself a couple of greys and a canada .... love the first photo alan it's a belter and a good write up you will have to give me a call and i will take you out for a flight see if we can wet your wings regards wag
