A few caught without any other dogs, just 2 Plummers working cover and catching, bringing them out,not bad for an hours bushing, WM
-
A better pic of the same bitch, worked to ground until she was run over aged 9yrs,still had years left in her and as good as anything I've seen,WM

Keep your replies civil TH as you seem to be letting your dislike of me affect your judgement or maybe its the "happy grass" kicking in,this is a forum for open debate and we all post what our own personal experiences are, I've seen plenty of spaniels and crosses damaged when working heavy bramble and gorse all day, I am not saying there will not be crosses that do otherwise,as for commenting on what my Plummers can do you would never know without seeing them work, keep your comments on what you work and I shall do the same,WM

I used to have this pic as my avatar,30 yd drain that had a break half way up that branched off into a shallow earth, dug it a few times, this pic was my old Plummer dog being run through it,WM

Tom, the ears on a cocker or cross would get hammered in the heavy cover I work and at 650 it would be a costly mistake,a decent terrier with either russell or Plummer in it would do the job for you,it would get down any runs in cover easily and able to bush steadily all year round,I get out everyday bushing and my terriers smash any cover without damage, nettles are not a problem either,Gaz has been lucky with his Plummer in that it has some decent breeding in its paperwork but most are not of this standard,if you need any info on what lines to buy then pm me but a cross would do you and a thi

I think bird has it spot on as to the age entering, youngest one was a collie/grey at 9 months, killed it easy and never looked back but I've had some struggle and never take them single handed, easy to do doubled up or gang handed but someone will normally take the pain, dogs are as different as ourselves, killing rats and fox has never affected any of my lurchers bringing back rabbits or game birds alive,I expect a lurcher to take whatever is put in front of it,birds as well as ground game,WM (pre_ban of course)

St least you are pleased with what you have picked mate,i though after all the chew and what people had been saying you were going to go to the deerhound. The deerhound bitch has been lined by a dog that is not my cup of tea,so that put it out the mix, I had a few calls off lads that said my pups parents were well worked so with him saying he would drive down 70 mile to meet me I couldn't refuse, she should do all I need from her, I ferret most days and the rest is a bonus, here's a few pics from sunday,we just bolted with ferrets and bushed to the team,a good laugh and with 2 young runne

Well after searching the internet for a decent pup and talking to the most inexperienced owners that have bred litters from utter sh*te,most not even worked just pets and expecting telephone numbers (daft money) for them , I honestly was getting a bit pissed off,so after ringing a lad that failed to tell me that his dogs had bull and a few others in the mix until it slipped out when he was telling me it took stoats and rats (helmet or what!!!!) well that was enough for me to contact my original guy in Newcastle,my pup I had chosen off the pics was still available so I bit the bullet and me a

Thought after looking at the pics on the lurcher section it might be nice to see a few pics of your favourite terriers, it does not have to be a working pic just one you like or may be of a long gone tyke you have a soft spot for,WM "DANNY" I'll start with a little Plummer terrier that left a big hole when he died, good little earth dog and companion, full of character, still missed pup I bred for a good mate a few

I think you are dreaming at that price, lurcher pups are ten a penny and at that age the bonding, getting through wire, stock breaking can be a pain,I think a more realistic price and you may find some one ,Plucky

Spoke to a few more people and we were arguing over 50quid in the end,I wanted it knocking off for fuel anyway in the end I thought feck it,most lads are begging lads to take big pups off their hands by 8weeks and I still just could not get excited, normally I am like a big kid, even at 58yrs old,we will see what turns up over the next few months,WM
-
Well looks like the journey up to Newcastle is off, just don,t feel 100% about these pups,WM

I've driven further and not liked what I seen,2 years ago I drove up to cocker mouth ,cumbria, dog was crap and the lad a liar, turned around and drove back down to craven arms to look at deerhound/greyhound cross pups, they were sh*te and the fella a lying barstuard,we then went to holyhead,Anglesey and bought an adult dog to tide us over, another liar the dog was not what he said so that was sold a month later, nearly 500 miles in a day, left home 7am got back 8pm,so I do not mind a drive for the right dog or pup,WM

Live Fox Trapping Bait
Plucky1 replied to ben the bunny killer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
We always use fish waste, heads, guts, etc from the fishmongers nearby when baiting either traps or a field, I find when baiting a field it takes them longer to eat and not as easy to run off with to the hedge in a safe place and eat it,keeps them out in the middle longer,WM -
I'll pm you,WM

Hello Matt, hope your dads well and tell him hello from me, your question is real easy for me to answer due to fractional genetics, you only have to look at the pup off your uncles matchdog,he was special but as I seen it nothing was ever bred of his calibre from him, you cannot reproduce lurcher/lurcher matings with any certainty due to the amount of breeds in the mix,its easy to do a first or second cross or even a 5/8 X 3/8,after that its in the lap of the gods, even if it worked in a previous mating the matter of how the genetics fall is a gamble at best, I would of loved a pup off my bitch
