    BSA

Thanks for that info, very helpful. My mate is a gunsmith, i never really thought of switching the Mercury to .177 Yes the ProElite is the advance on the TX range. My mate had a ProElite but sold it on when he was made redundant (regretted it ever since ). I had forgot about the AirSporter, i tried a mates AirSporter, it was fantastic. I'd have loved one of those. My mate the gunsmith serviced a Fienwerkbau, and that was also a great gun. As you say, the older BSA guns are what to look for. ps Your not Howard are you ? If so pm me Thanks.
  9. The ferret show is still on, say hello to Gill from the Rescue. Have a good day.

    BSA

I never liked the Lightning, and sold it on. I'd look at a BSA Supersport, fantastic gun. I have a BSA Mercury which fires brilliant and accurate at 35 yards, its .22 but i wish i'd had .177 The HW90 is a great gun as is the HW80 but both very heavy i found. Of all the best guns, i think it has to be the AirArms ProElite, but difficult to find a second hand one.
  12. Those are Norman Tulips sticks. Yes its an adder. Best place for seasoned shanks. http://www.highlandhorn.com/
  13. Those sticks are Norman Tulips, most are now in Alnwick Castle. To use the Holly properly, its cut about 6ft long, and about 5inches thick. Seal all cut ends on branch shoots etc, with varnish, paint etc. Leave to season for perhaps 4 years or "season" at a mill in their kiln. The shank is then planed straight and square, then hexagonal to about 2 inches thick. Your now using the heart wood. Mark around the knots with a pencil and file around these leaving then standing proud, and round off the shank to about one inch thick. You must seal the shank at the end of the day after working on it.
  14. Hazel, Blackthorn and Holly are most often used. The holly more so on show sticks. Season for one year per inch thickness. One simple rule, don't let the hand-piece droop.

    wild ferrets

A lot of ferrets are coming into the rescue just now,- mainly large hobs found wandering. It would seem they have probably been dumped, as they'd have to be caged seperate this time of year. Also a lot of ferrets are found when others are out ferreting. Kids go ferreting and if the ferret lays up, they won't wait for it, or think they've lost it and go home. I think there are a large number of ferrets in the wild in all areas.
  16. What i meant was,- on Fox or bigger stuff, perhaps yes, but on just rabbit.
  17. I don't think this sounds a bad dog at-all,- I often get asked to rehome dogs that are said to be no use. One in particular was brought to me, the lad saying it won't even chase rabbits,- a few months with a mate of mine, getting fit and brought on properly, that dog was taking everything, and was perfect among stock. Several dogs like this, have turned out to be great dogs, that i know of. My own dog knows if there is no chance of a catch, he will not put his all into a run on it. The drive just needs to kick in, given time.
