  1. Who was the keeper and what land, they asked me to ask, as it could be someone they know.
  2. Tonya, Is this person the one that attacked andy or the one that attacked the game keeper with a firearm??? Do you have any more information on this attack on the gamekeeper with a firearm, in the same area. My farmer / shooting friends are asking about this as the keepers they know, have not said anything, and they usually inform each other. Thanks
  3. Very interesting bit of film. I'd expect they were catching them to reduce injury as thats some height for any dog.
  4. I've just managed to get those links to play, and see he boils his, but not many people i know would boil buffalo. Each to their own.
  5. If you take your time heating the buffalo horn, with the hot airgun, it will become like toffee. Keep the gun about 4 to 6inches from the horn so you don't burn it, and keep the gun moving, on the two sides and the inner side, i never heated the back, and i also used to put a file between the sash-clamp and back of the horn so it got a better grip. I used to take about i hour 15 minutes for the first bend. I have some photos i will try and put up. Its best if you don't try to boil buffalo horn, as it can delaminate.
  6. Alan Bateman is one of the best stick dressers in Britain,- i'm sure he was also a member of BSDA. There are other links on Hunting Life to Alans work.

  8. The latest Newsletter from the Border Stick Dressers Association has an article in from Dane Love, a great maker of all types of sticks. He has a DVD out on the making of a Burr Elm, Thistle ( crook type ) walking stick. The thistle is carved on the curl end. A good help for beginners, and experienced stick-makers. Its £10 plus £1.50 postage. From Dane Love, Holland Crescent, Cumnock, Ayrshire, KA18 1QE

  13. The Broken beam. The coffins in a line to the church were over 2 miles long. Mass grave, and memorial.
  14. My Gt Gt Gt Grandad, James Amour, the back overman,- trapped underground with over 200 other men and boys, in 1862, The Hartley Colliery Disaster, in New Hartley. The single shaft became blocked, when the 42 ton pumping engine beam snapped, sending one half crashing down the shaft, when both day shift and night shift were all down there for the shift change-over. They were all trapped alive, but all died a few days later when the stythe gas got them. His 14 year old son also died with him.
  15. Should be able to let you know later today.
  16. Thank you, i have pig hunting. Its Beagling or Foxhounds mainly for a mate of mine, now disabled, but he used to follow them a lot. Just something for him to watch. I did get some, but wouldn't mind a good beagling one for him. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. Dave
