    When I bought the gun it came with a test certificate stating 11.3ft lb with 8.4 gn pellets which is the holy grail value I'm chasing. I stripped the whole gun back to original condition yesterday. There wasn't much difference in power between the huub shroud and the moderator. There was a bit of an increase in power output when I took the de-pinger out (~0.3ft lb.). I think the best thing to do is some shot strings and plot the power curves for various setups - a job for tomorrow! David

    I've not done it with the chrono yet, but my experience with the gun has shown it's most consistently accurate between 220 and 150 bar - it'll be interesting to see how the figures come out when I test that this evening. Thanks, David

    Thanks for all the replies guys. I've spent the evening testing different pellets, guns and lighting types. Still not sure what the deal is - the lgu is pretty consistently returning 11.4 with the 8.4 Superfields so I'm starting to think it's not the Combro. There was a big jump up in readings when I removed a shroud I'd fitted, although the values were all over the place (40 ish fps spread) making me think the muzzle blast had a bit of an effect. Got to around 10.4 ft lb with bisley magnums. Then stripped the gun, removed the cylinder and the de-pinger I'd previously fitted (just in case

    Hi all, I've just bought a Combro and checked the power on the Ultra. Bit concerned as it's only producing an average of 10ft lb with RWS Superfields 8.4 gn (.177). Any ideas on the likely causes of a low power reading? The gauge on the gun read 220 bar. Any troubleshooting tips/advice appreciated. Thanks, David

    I've just had the letter asking for the £16.. Would have preferred the full 5 year term though! I've already started inheriting guns from folk with nowhere to shoot and looking forward to picking up a bargain as we get closer to January the 1st. Quite a hassle for a law-abiding responsible shooter to go through though.

    I notice a real drop off after 30 consistent shots from a 220 fill. I would say the 10 shots from about 100 bar downwards start creeping lower and lower below zero, with the last shots about 3cm low. I'm tempted by a bigger cylinder and would go for one if it appeared in the for sale section of the forum - will keep my eyes peeled I guess!

    I've had an Ultra SE for about a year now and get on well with it. Nice and light when out hunting, short when you're in a hide or around the farm and I get enough shots out of it for a good hunting session. Having said that I'm considering having a reg fitted to get a few more shots out of it and improve the consistency. Quite a few after-market bits and bobs about too so you can fettle away too.

    That TX looks great and I'm amazed by that grouping (although not surprised!). It's funny, after a bit of fettling I'm more likely to take out my old Lightning than other guns in the cabinet - guess there's a bit more of a sense of ownership/connection! David

    Here's hoping the baracudas work well in the Ultra - they sound like they'll be ideal for this type of shooting. I'm hoping some happy farmers will open up the way for other types of permission - my freezer's running low on wood pigeon! Thanks again for the advice, David

    Thank you for the replies chaps. I've bought a tin of each pellet you've suggested and will try them out at the range next week. In the meantime I'll switch back to the Superfields for the last shed I'm visiting today. The ferals seemed far twitchier than I had expected, resulting in shots that certainly weren't 'close'! I suspect when they cotton-on to the grain that was being stored in the sheds and the weather turns they will settle down a bit - I've agreed a follow up visit in a few weeks so will hopefully test your suggestions then.     I managed to secure permission to shoot ferals on a couple of farms earlier this week and headed out on Friday to make a start. I was very mindful of solid backstops, which was just as well, as my bisley magnums in .177 were passing straight through on occasion. What are your thoughts on hollowpoints, or should I use a lighter pellet (Superfields also group well in my Ultra)? Thanks in advance, David
