It must have been the damp from last Winter and the wet Spring. I bet this Winter sorts them out

Butchering Costs - Pig
PeskyWabbits replied to PeskyWabbits's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Yes, it is pig food. Wheat based pellets. The cheapest I can get it at an agricultural supply store is £8 and that is probably 'turbo'. Sow and Weaner is about £8.50 - £9.50. I will be taking Mr Rabid's advice and getting an account with a mill, or other source for next year's interns. The costs I stand are environmental. So the hut was £200 for a second hand 8'x10' off ebay but it was local and saved a lot of time The electric fence (I borrowed one the first year) came out at just over £200 but that was the Mole Valley transformer, 400m wire, 40 plastic poles, 60m armoured mains cable -
Nicely edited video there. That rifle looks fantastic. Those rats look sort of cute. Not like the 'orrible beasties I have to contend with. Looking forward to more films like this

I will be disposing of this if no one wants it. Currently free to any home. I have a thrush too. That flew into my window. No visible damage on that. I can't post them. Collection from near Halifax.

Wanted Rifle / Shotgun Cabinet Wanted North East / North Yorks Area
PeskyWabbits replied to wezza's topic in Miscellaneous
I have always found that bargains can be had in the Freeads, or, especially Ebay. Cabinets are always expensive new but cheap second hand, as they are too heavy to post so have a limited market. In reality a gun safe is a bargain for securing tools etc. Much better than a Van Vault or garage cabinet Here are a few on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_ItemCondition=3000&_nkw=gun+cabinet&_sop=1 -
The owl was killed by a cat at a local farm. I am near Halifax. I don't think I can post it.

We did my field. Got lots of beeps. Out came the spade - airgun pellets! Old georgian coins in the bridleways though

Zip tie, well.. it is for Rat Patrol. The red T20 clamps to the silencer, not ideal but no room on this 'scope. The cable tie is to hold the rat's tail switch, my velcro strip is stuck to my Pro Sport.

Got this one while sorting out the pig trailer. After worrying my ducks, the magpies have moved up the field to glean worms from the upturned soil and knick some wheat from the pig troughs. I had only been in there for 5 minutes. They weren't expecting that.

I was given a dead owl to pass on to a friend for taxidermy but she says she is too busy. It is about 12" long. Not sure what variety. It is in my freezer. Does anyone want it? Pesky

These are very, very popular £50 from Blackpool Air Guns but I think you can buy them at most gun shops.

Thank you for all the replies, even those ones. I'm not scared to say when I get spooked.

I was terrified. Not used to this. Also terrified he would get in and slaughter my ducks in front of me. The foxes I normally see in the countryside, shy away from any sign of humans. In the towns they just sit sunning on the tarmac. Anyway, the 'milk tray' escapades of the previous night must have been for my benefit. I was doing some run maintenance and I found his real route. Very clever. In from next door again but there is a gap between some sheep fencing and the hen run border. He runs along then as it gets to a corner there is a gap where mesh rolls would have met at one time

I was on rat patrol last night and came to face with the fox. I now know his route. He climbs atop Mrs Nextdoor's summerhouse then drops in over the 7 foot run fence. The roof mesh has a hole here. Runs through the two connecting compounds, Then goes up a diagonal tree trunk and drops down over the 6 foot fence The hen run is forty foot by twenty foot with 6-7 foot chicken wire fences, a wall running down part of it, a channel 2 foot deep and 2 foot wide with York stone filling it. 3 hens sleep in a tall hawthorn - untouched. 5 ex-hens were in a hut but I had left the door open. He ca

Yorkshire tea is terrible mate,PG tips is the drink of choice in Surrey. At the moment I am wading through a box of tetley orange pekoe because my sis in law thought she would "treat me"?Theres a chain of posh tea shops in Ottawa,I was in one last week sampling the nutmeg tea, quite nice, far better than Tim Hortons or second-cup "coffee". Yorkshires gone down hill really badly in the last few years god knows what they've done to it but it's undrinkable Things aren't what they used to be. I hear it's made in India these days

Thanks for the replies. I will replace them in time. It is tricky getting a fence up in that location as it borders Mrs Nextdoor (her real name too) as she doesn't like the look of Stalag Luft Henrun as it is. I only have an air rifle so revenge is limited. What is the legal position of using a catapult and marbles or CV joint bearings?

What a great video. Looking forward to seeing more. We know where the shopping trolleys vanish to too.

Was going to use a flag stone and a stick tied to a dead hen, but I am too weedy to move the stone into the run. Don't want to squash the neighbour's cat

Definitely a fixer. My daily driver is 22 years old. New stuff is generally rubbish like washing machines and cookers that used to survive your childhood to now lasting about 6 years. It is always worth having a go.

I got 5 new hens recently. They arrived with red spider mite, so I quarantined them in a separate run and hut, daily bedding swap and cleaning out. Got rid of the mites. Plenty of eggs. All dead this morning. Fox came through neighbour's garden. This has always been the weak side and she had a gardening team trimming her hedges last week, making a path for the orange monster. Cute little animals that play on trampolines need feeding.

My neighbour does this and has found all sorts - Roman stuff, WW2 bombers etc. Not sure what model he has but he says experience is more important than the detector spec. He says you can get an idea from Google Map on the type of ground that holds secrets, undulations from generations ago. It is very much an anorak hobby but a surprising number of people and they are usually in some kind of club.

I agree with this. The BSA Lightning is a budget gun. The HW95 isn't. I would also go for a second hand one that you get to test, over a brand new one.

My old Frontera was on Academy http://www.academyinsurance.co.uk/products_car_insurance.aspx They do specialised 4x4 or commercial. Mine started at £370 but dropped to £270. But it depends on your history and locality. I don't tend to use NCD policies these days. If your car qualifies for classic status the savings can be enormous. And it depends what it is, not all classics are ancient.

Been thinking of getting one for some time. Anyone got one? Is it a favourite or a faff? I would probably go for a genuine one, but how do the knock-offs compare? We are past the camping season, but I just fancy one. Thanks a lot Pesky
