  1. very good post kye. as was said there is good and bad everywhere. would give every pound in my pocket to see those stags work in ire. they are like the dogs i used to keep. sadly the strain is gone. sounds like you are very happy with the dogs in your yard. and the best of luck to you and hope everything works out. think i seen your stags run on video on another site. under a different name you wher using. a credit to you all the best macker
  2. have had dogs rather than bitches most of the the time. when i used wippets you got that little extra in height and stride. othe wise if i was getting a pup and i seen bitches of the line work well i would go for a bitch pup. have seen some lines throw very good dogs too. i think with an open mind to both sexes might stand you a better chance.
  3. smashing pup des. a friend of mine has its brother. very similar but not as well made. as trev said its very like the father. espicially in the second photo. i think you will be very happy when you see him working.
  4. cracking dogs a friend of mine has a terrier just like the black one. got a couple today my self. no more digging for one of my terriers till next season but worked well .
  5. can be a very good cross if you can get the right mix. and the ones i have seen were very good alrounders. well trained too.
  6. to me it would not be too much to worry about. if she is turning the rabbits like you said and just not tried to connect. have seen a few hare dogs sold on for the same reason. and the same person trying to buy them back when some one else puts some time in. got a few good replys so far. dropped rabbits are great as most of us know. one thing that might help you is to just feed her rabbits gutted of course. leave her with them until she eats them. can trigger it off and make them try harder to pick up.when she knows its her dinner that its chasing. cant give a pup enough dropped r
  7. have seen some top class deerhounds crosses over the years. retieve rabbit hare and fox.no deer where i hunt. as lamp dogs they where as tight on the turns as any wippet. one thing that can improve a line is a greyhound. too much can also ruin a strain which i have seen my self. as was said earlier that deerhounds need a longer time to mature. but when they do. i found with the ones ive seen and had that they last longer than most. and can still lamp well into their later years when other crosses might be retired. do not keep deerhound crosses any more. but after seeing some of these
  8. you could be right there. nighttimenellie. wounder if it is widespread as i been told?
  9. alot of spots that i had around dublin. rabbits have dissapered. had six farms up to two years ago that you could run the dogs all night. lucky to get a few runs now. have been scouting around a few spots with little luck. only one the farms had reports of myxi. have gutted a few last season with white specks on liver. have been told that this is also a big killer of rabbits even before myxi. might be the reason why rabbits have just dissapered. with no dead ones to be seen. not really sure. seems to getting worse all over except for some hot spots here and there. for an animal th
  10. nothing like getting a few good runs even if you dont pick up many. lamped two spots that where full of rabbits last season. only got a couple of runs though. will be checking a few more spots this weekend hopefully with better luck. best of luck macker
  11. thanks alot disturbered. love the look of that pup you picked. a good old strain by the looks of it. best of luck with him. macker
  12. would be interested in seing some pics of them disturbed. or parents of them if you bring your camera with you. very interested in that type of dog.
  13. the best one i had was a pied dog. when a good lurcher is tight behind his game i think the rabbit hare or fox is not too bothered about the dogs colour. the pied dog i had was very good on squaters too. most did not see him coming.
  14. even if they seem to of forgoteen the fight. keep seperate. it will never be like before with them. what would he be like after one minute. hope the dog gets the ok.off vet.
  15. thanks for the pics. very nice dogs. very like the ones that used to be in my area years ago. are they your own breeding kye.?
  16. would be very interested to see some pics of your type some time. thats a huge bitch for that age is she more of a strain or crossed with a grey hound?
  17. great post this. as a young lad there where some really good deerhound crosses around. more of a fawn strain mostly. if only these dogs where around my area now i would have no other cross. they did everything from big bags of rabbits. single handed hare dogs. to killing fox with a bite. some alround dogs. has this fawn strain of deerhounds gone forever . or are they still in some parts of the world. years ago i was told that the fawn ones where the ones where more common with the coursing lads and worked better at that time. this type i will always be in my heart. after seen wh
  18. very well said foxdropper. its easy to say on paper that a strain is the ultimate lurcher. its seeing them in the field thats puts us all straight. honestly think that a litter of ultimate lurchers has yet to be born. people that try to keep their pups close and breed from the best ones in my eyes people like this are alot closer to sucess than people that claim they have these dogs and sell the hole litter. not trying to start anything. i just think its a hard enough game to get what we want from our dogs. every litter has pups that are not up to scratch even hole litters can be.whe
  19. have asked alot about these tumbler crosses. with no info at all from hunting folk. the only thing i know is that there is alot of breeds in the type. tought i read there was husky in them too.
  20. think i will just keep to the normal vac. could not find enough info on the tabs. thanks anyway steve

    A new Mixy?

whats it all coming to i wounder? think i seen something like this done on killer bees. idea was to make their offspring unable to breed. it was a success.in some eyes. think those scientest are ones that need the treatment.
  22. would be interested to know more about this treatment. have three pups coming soon. seems to be a good thing to start with tabs at an early age. have not heard of this type. cheers macker
  23. honestly think a colar does no harm. as for accidents i have seen more injurys with dogs. jumping barb wire fences from leaving their back legs trailing. in my opinion very game dogs will get them selves into some trouble weather they have a colar or not. other dogs will never do them selves harm.
  24. think our dogs do mre for us sometimes than they think. you will be ok. you will drag this thread up some time in the future and laugh your head off. not afraid to say i have been in your position its great to get out with dogs in the fresh air. take it easy macker
