    Totally forgot...my first whippet. We used to grow that "medicinal plant" in my mum's garden. Had a half dozen looking really good, and ready, then poof, one day just shredded down to the stalk. Was my whippet....slept for a couple days lol. But, the appetite was born, and from that day on he'd snatch from anybody's back back etc....was known as a baggie thief.

    Haha, great topic Dan. Had a lurcher that I got in the 90's...my first real lurcher, sire was form UK. Anyway, master, master thief. A few "good ones" were these: Riding with her off leash along a river bank trail. Lone construction worker sitting peacefully in the distance eating his sandwich in the sun. Zephyr runs by at full tilt and yanks said meal from buddy's hands/mouth at the speed of light. I saw it coming but there was nothing I could do lol.     Sorry to hear, really hope she makes a full recovery. My brother's DH cross got smoked by a car 6 months ago and it was bad, but he's bouncing back, just takes some time. Wish you two the best.

    Hi there. I stumbled on this forum by accident last year when looking for hound folk online. Been lurking for a while and posting some pictures here and there. Learning a ton from you guys so a big thanks for that. What an incredible resource this place is. I've already made a few friends/acquaintances and looks like I've found my next pup too ! A little about me...I'm from Western Canada and have lived in the Prairies, Rockies, Kootenays and am now on the Coast. I've kept sighthounds since the late 80's. I love being in the woods and hills with my dogs more than anything else.

    Thought you guys might like that vid....as for riding, I think a good way to practice is to first learn how to ride a bike with one hand (and have that hand on the rear brake). Once you master that, then hold the lead with the other hand. Way safer than tying the dogs to the bike and you can bail off quick too. Also, keep the seat lower. Just my 2 cents from someone that's been doing this for almost 30yrs...plus if you start when they are pups, they won't have the power to pull you over and will learn how to handle themselves appropriately....all my dogs got it pretty quickly.     Haha, interesting topic for me, as I've been riding with whippets, lurchers, staghounds since the late 80's. Even used to skateboard with 2 of them at once, that was fun, lol. Definitely got scabbed up a few times. I use a harness on the pullers (from sled huskies) ....but most get it after a while and stop pulling too hard. But, the dogs absolutely love it....I just touch my bike, and they light right up with joy. I think it's almost as good/fun as chasing quarry for them. In town, always on a lead, and in the bush, off lead 100% of the time, they just love single track....if you

    Here's a "Canadian Staghound" of DHxGH origin from southern BC. A couple of pics from when he was young, then from present day. He's now 11yrs old, and been my best dog by far, after 25 years of sighthounds. Really sharp, lots of brain and tons of character and a pure athlete. Back in the day, he'd go out at night and just drop the rabbits on the back porch. Now he just likes to chill at the beach, loves the water. Absolutely perfect creature if there ever was one.
