  1. I had a numpty the other day wanting me to get rid of some bumbles in her garden as she was worried her dog would get stung. She had obviously been phoning around... Another Packham fan no doubt.
  2. That's great news. I'm not doubting you but that is for protection of flora and fauna?? I have applied for several under preservation of health to remove herring gull nests but not heard anything back yet. ?
  3. My understanding was that does licences would only be granted for the Protection of livestock. I'm pretty sure that they won't consider magpies to be a serious threat to livestock.
  4. It doesn't cost anything to apply for a licence. However the only licences that are being granted are to preserve public health or public safety. You won't get one for a magpie on that basis so don't waste your time.
  5. About 25 years ago (before I worked in pest control) I had the misfortune to work with a bloke who guarded his technical knowledge very closely. He was hugely insecure about losing his job, I was in my mid twenties and he was forty or so then. Well, this fella was the biggest shit I probably have ever met, he constantly tried to get everyone around him in trouble, he even went so far as to sabotage other peoples work (this was in the reprographic sector) and resisted ANY innovation to make the work easier and quicker and better. Anyway, after a few years there the company went into administrat
  6. I got Eley No 6 cartridges. I have an unmoderated 410 already, and use it to humanely kill cage trapped foxes, but it is quite noisy, and I even used the subsonic cartridges in it to try and get the noise down. So primarily its for that, but at the moment I have a rabbit job on where there are houses very close and horses in a field behind as well. I couldn't get in a position to use my Air rifle effectively so the Hushpower will be getting an outing one night this week.
  7. Got the wood one. It's nice. Says on the instructions that it takes 50-100 shots before the mod is "run in"... Can't wait to take it out, shame I have a tiny garden on a housing estate!
  8. So I'm off to buy a new Baikal 410 hushpower this morning, been wanting a hushpower for the last few years... So wood stock or black synthetic? The wood is £35 cheaper...
  9. I think mostly its use-by the big nationals by people who don't have the skills or time to trap. That's the only way I can think that it's going to ever be used because let's face it goes if you know what you're about trapping squirrels is a piece of piss.
  10. I have a Springer pistol at about that power and it works fine. ?
  11. A 12-ft lb rifle can kill a pigeon or a squirrel at 30 yds. You're talking about killing a captive mammal at distances under a foot. 6 ft pounds is way way overpowered for that distance.
  12. At that range with that power you should be fine providing you get the shot placement right. Remember anything 6 foot pounds in a pistol at close range then you are risking severe ricochets and rebounds so a medium power pistol is actually the way to go to save yourself!
  13. I don't believe that I have ever said it is an inhumane trap (although you do get the odd foul catch, as you do with every trap), I used it for many years before I found the putange, and was happy with it. However, I forgot just how like arguing with you on the forum is like arguing with someone with a learning disability, and for that reason I am out. Go and enjoy your buckfast and intellectual poverty with someone else.
  14. By your own admission you know nothing about this trap, so I hardly think you are qualified to have any kind of opinion on their efficacy or humaneness. Shhhh.
  15. And you need something better than that bloody peg to set it as well. It also looks like yours are a slightly different manufacturer than the ones I use as the loops around the top are at a different angle.
  16. Well I meant no offence mate, but if you're able to get the squirrel to take the bait, any bait, then you should be able to put a trap around that bait in order to catch it. Just my opinion.
  17. Well for some reason the HSE has seen fit to approve warfarin for use on squirrels again. I really don't understand, squirrels are easy enough to catch why on earth is it needed??!! And I should add the only time I've ever seen warfarin used on squirrels in the past is by useless lazy fat c**t pest controllers who have no idea how to trap anything.
  18. I have fenns in wooden boxes that I made. Even if it is a foul catch, which doesn't happen that often, providing you put it where the box won't rattle around you should be good.
