Which springer too buy?
philpot replied to Adampie8432's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Pity you are too far away as I have a 35 export model to sell, you could have tried it, not quite as heavy as the 97 but certainly accurate. Phil -

Oh I am so pleased you said that Timmy because it made little sense to me when you consider it was supposed to be for the individual which clearly it was not. Phil -
My rfd based in Scunthorpe, North Lincs, have a rack with the bargain guns in and well worth a look. I just picked up a nice Winchester 101 XTR, o/u, fixed 1/4 & 1/2 choke barrels for my son in law, £250 and it shoots a treat. I tested another, roach belly Phantom o/u (browning A1 copy) £150. Might be worth giving them a call.

I don't clean my barrel at all but every now and then I take off my Wildcat Panther mod and give it a few taps on the bench after opening it up, loads of crap fall out then check with 10 shots and we are away again. Phil

It's the airgun shooting section so it is very unlikely anyone would have a spade.

On the HSE / Reach UK date, this is a proposal only at present and whilst I have barely skimmed a few of the 220 pages, it looks like there could be exceptions. As I said earlier, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Far far too early to be certain of the final outcome as it affect large number of jobs, vermin issues etc so just keep an open mind other than believing basc can not be trusted with our sport. Phil -

Timmy, I have just found the puplic consultation document from the HSE but they are really wanting figures of ammo both lead and lead free on a GB scale not individuals so how have you filled in your entry as I have scrapped my entry as being not what they are asking for OR is there another document that applies to the individual. I am at present wading through the 220 page UK REACH, UK restriction report which is heavy going but I am hoping to better understand the full situation of the proposals. Phil -

Just arrived today in my inbox, the latest from basc. FACE complaint successful on EU lead restriction consultation - The British Association for Shooting and Conservation BASC.ORG.UK The European Ombudsman has recognised a case of maladministration in relation to access to evidence during last year’s EU lead ammunition restriction... -

Can you put up a link to consulation document Timmy please. The basc latest blurb states that consultation is being handled by REACH UK, so who is HSE. Phil -

Everyone knows this is total bullshit but the propergander keeps on rolling with fcuking wankers like basc who have their own agenda and that is not to aid most shooting men and women. To be honest, go into half a dozen rfds and ask if they know from the ammo suppliers what is actually the plan, NOBODY knows for sure. I think it is safe to say we will be forced into buying steel shot cartridges for shooting live quarry although I have heard it said that clay shooting grounds will be allowed to use lead shot. Rimfire will stay on lead and pellets will also stay on lead as to centrefire, we -

I have been seriously considering selling my Tikka .22 rimmy today and just stick with the hmr and air rifle fac. Phil -
I enjoy the day normally and it is always interesting to see what new stuff is around, not just guns but there is usually something to take my interest and the contents of my megre wallet. ? Although having said that I went to a different rfd yesterday after clay shooting and treated myself to some new electronic ear muffs AND I have my eye firmly set on an old Perrazzi trap gun which I am just sowing seeds with my dearly beloved....................? I was told by an RFD I went into today that some American on youtube has carried out tests on pellets, live ammo and shotgun using all the different metals available, only one metal perfromed as well as lead for grouping and in the case of shotguns, pattern and that is GOLD. Needless to say this was only for testing but it does make you think what an uphill struggle this is likely to be. Phil -

Kead fishing weights is banned from many waters now and they are seriously hard to buy in this country. My pal goes to France where there is no lead bal so he buys a load every time he goes. -

I agree with Simon and I seriously believe that there is not enough profit in pellets to spend on research and development to produce an ACCURATE, RELIABLE pellet at a PRICE that will satisfy the airgun hunter. You also have to consider how many countries will not be having a lead ban so as a business decision, would I bother investing many thousands of £ / $ or whatever to produce a pellet to satisfy the UK and EU when there may be a huge market in other countries and once again the UK is left behind. Just my opinion and only time will tell but when you have a group such as basc so calle -
Delighted to see you back on here Simon, I was very close to calling in on you a couple of weeks ago as I came up through New Yorks straight but time was against me. Welcome home mate. Phil

That's weird Mitch, we had this problem some months ago with your pm box but thanks Jimmy. So I will give the pm a miss for now, I am happy to keep the liner Mitch as you never know it may be useful one day but like you it made no difference to slug performance so just let me know if you want it back in which case I need your address or bank details and I will pay you. One of our members, Pianoman (Simon) had a new Huntsman, utter trash and you have to bear in mind Simon is a superb springer shot so a pcp is childs play to him but after returning it to gaystate, it was no better and it sat in the cabinet for a few years until he decided to take it to Ratworks and Phil Crampton worked his magic to make this gun what it should have been from the factory but why the hell should he have to spend a few hundred quid to sort a gun from new. There is a stunning Huntsman in my rfd at the moment and to be honest, I would love it as it feels superb in the shoulder
