  1. Cheers Rez. It was wet and muddy down there last night but, thanfully the rain held off for us. I've kinda got my spots sussed now - there's one 5ft high shed with a clean flat roof - that's THE only place I put my rifle down on this permission You know John, some folk laugh at the Trigger Stick tripod that Mark and I use but in sh1tty conditions they are unbeatable. I was talking to an old pal in Sheffield who does some ratting and he bought one on my suggestion and thinks it is nothing short of a game changer when it comes to ratting, standing or sitting. Perhaps worth a look.
  2. There is a very pretty 510 supersport like Si's in my RFD Jimmy s/h..................................very very nice and it's got your name on it matey. Phil
  3. Nice one Mark. Went out myself today, first time in weeks and quite interesting because the nettles had died right back revealing a rabbit warren I had not been aware of before because this is my first winter on the perm. Also found a couple of places for permanent hides so on the lookout for a few pallets now but if all else fails, I will be setting up some netting and leave it all year. Unfortunately no hedgerow or thick bushey cover. Photo's next time I go. Phil
  4. It might be rank Si but the sport of kings mate, good on yer. Phil
  5. See Rez my age and eyes weren't playing tricks.............................for a moment though, I thought they were. Phil
  6. Interesting point Mark, all the moorhens I shot all those years ago were taken on the River Derwent in Bakewell, Derbyshire which is a beautiful clear trout river so perhaps you have something there mate. Phil
  7. Ah, thank you, I think BASC is the way to go to be honest. Phil
  8. Hmmm looks like BASC then. Does their cover offer insurance on the guns themselves, I will phone and ask them tomorrow, just handy to get your feedback. Phil
  9. I was always a member of WAGBI before BASC took over and then a member of CPSA as it was only clay shooting for many many years, just not thought about it since I started to shoot live quarry again. If I joined BASC, it would be as a full member to cover shotguns as well but are you all paying up front or monthly. Phil
  10. Cheers guys. I had thought about joining BASC but in truth I was more interested in getting a straight cover from a company. CCC3 looks decent. Phil
  11. Just got a little rat perm today, not expecting much as it is a new sugar beet compound so might take a while to get going but Hey Ho, who cares. The farm manager asked if I have insurance, I of course said yes...........................so I had better get some. Now then lads, what insurance companies do you use. Phil
  12. Ah, I see, well there is one in Sheff I would not trust a catapult with but I had better keep that one quiet. All the best with it John. Phil
  13. It really is a good looking rifle Richard, I do like laminated stocks. Good on you getting stuck into home tuning, I'm a coward and took up the kind offer from Charlie Caller to tune my TX who really knows about tuning. Phil
  14. Perhaps my memory is failing me but from what I recall they tasted alright although it was about 38 years ago Phil
  15. Lovely old gun John and an interesting thread. Sheffield only has three RFD's that supposedly have gunsmiths and I doubt it was John at Hardy's so I can have a small wager that I know which one it was. Phil
  16. Has your cooking improved at all Mark. Phil
  17. We could make a plan here mate, boats can be hired at the mere and I have a few shotties so clays are also doable................................food for thought although a week day is always better with less people on the range. 65mt is basically 3 lanes 25mt is about 6 lanes 100mt is for firearms inc my fac rifle. 10mt for pistol etc.(indoor) All layouts are outdoor with covered shooting positions/benches. Phil
  18. There is Humberside Shooting Ground with a 65mt, 25mt and 100mt ranges Si along with a good clay shooting layout, fully stocked shop/gunsmith and cafe. Not a million miles from you near Hornsea. Not the best web site but here you go. http://www.humbersideshootingground.co.uk/ If ever you fancy a trip, I will meet up with you. Phil
  19. I am with you on that. Phil
  20. I don't see anything wrong with taking good care of your kit. I would also be really hacked off to damage any gun in any way by less than careful handling. I see anglers chucking gear on the bank, my gear is like brand new, any rod or reel looks like it has just come out of the shop. I remember clay shooting one day when a tiny fragment of a clay I had just shot, hit the forend of a brand new trap gun and put a dent in the middle of the chequering, I was both gutted and fcuking angry but nobody to blame which didn't help the situation one bit or my mood for that matter. It's called pri
  21. I have shot moorhens and coots in years gone by and eaten them. With a shotgun, no problem but with an air rifle would be tricky as the head movement on both birds would make it very hard for a head shot, that is assuming it was legal to shoot them. I have never heard of moorhens taking duck eggs, I would go as far as to say that is bullsh1t Rez IMO. Phil
  22. Lucky bugger................................ Phil
