  5. Sad to hear today that Mick passed away on Friday at home, my thoughts go to Kath and the family. Mick was well known in the lakie world and served as a FMWTC rep helping me on several rescues in the midlands UK. RIP old friend.
  6. WELL! Hopefully that's it! Everybody vexed and happy? Autumn is here young sap is rising!!! Hopefully all have prospects to go,me I'm screwed, for young blood, maybe next ye.
  7. Absolutely spot on f/dropper. Better said than I could have done it.
  8. I too was there! Only young but I'm influenced to this day on how,why we do things." For me this is important" I have respect for my quarry and admiration for my workers. Few of us will agree on what colour is "Black",never mind what a hard dog is,should be. " Enough from me I think"
  9. Yep Rob, I agree! I think many on here have never really seen a truelly hard dog, and also are not aware or have experienced the aftercare needed in those times gone by, pre ban. I can assure you though as kids, we did get a steady mark on our mish mash soft bred dogs and had lots and lots of successful outings. As kids we took an annual holiday digging, mom, dad, kids, picnic, lurcher, staffy. We managed! digging everyday in deepest wales, and great fun it was!!
  10. For me and this is only my opinion, the hard dog evolved more so after the locator came into use. I wonder how many folk would be so devoted to this type of animal if they could never be found below ground except in the most simple of places. Imagine loosing a solid type into a thirty hole multi layered place, yet now most would knowing that said dog can be located and dug to relatively easily. All be it after some considerable effort from us. Yes we did have them before locators but there use was limited. " just a thought"
  11. Wind howling, rain battering your head thinking that you can feel or hear the old "Deben" grey box, working away on yr knees in September soaking bracken, cutting you to pieces,I remember it well." For me personally no thanks" I'm sure I'm wrong but hey! Its a forum. I can now do places we would have cringed at! Years gone by. Confident of finding the dog,and getting the job done. On my own or another we are able to beat the odds most times, using the modern tec.IMO.
  12. I've always kept a hard type "Fatman" so can confirm what yr saying, this game requires all types, this has certainly been highlighted to me recently, after picking up the gauntlet once again proffessionnaly, not many of us would be happy to block in and leave a solid type, whilst a mark is made further up the glen. My heart and soul will always be with the coloured hard bitten warrior, but for professional work, in the eye of the law, a clever political centre piece has to have a position. First and for most a dog must be able to find! Hardness and staying power are only second if same d
  13. Not a clue what your saying Pablo, I'm no hero Buddy, just got an enthusiasm for working terriers.
  14. Dug to my dogs, Tuesday,Friday,Saturday,Sunday. Enough for any man! Back at it Tuesday. Plus a little job tmw morning. Keeps yr pecker up and yr back well bent.
  15. Two rough digs yday, 6 footer and then a seven footer, lots of stone and slate, last one was over 3 hrs. Easy little 2/3 footer today to keep gamekeeper happy. Off tmw then full day Tuesday.
  16. Good dig yday, ground was hard. Hope that's OK. Not to graffic.
