  1. I can't remember all the names of them gladiators that have stiffened that chain, but some awesome individuals are in my head now. If it was a good un standing above my head looking in it must have been a better un beneath me doing its stuff. How flipping sad. " got to find em "
  2. Lost a very dear friend on Wednesday, a set of couples I made as an apprentice when T Rex was a dinosaur not a pop star. Gutted like triggers broom there's been several sets of collars and two chains, three spikes etc. 120 miles away, phoned the keeper who thinks I'm childish and daft. Me! Gunna drive down and look for em, them collars have history.
  3. Ouch! And why did ya chuck in here, are regular to us. That southern stuff is " character building" bad bad ground.
  4. Yep think yr right, but I hit it everywhere, with that white chalk. Cotswold stuff is layered where I've been, take it to pieces like a jigsaw. Proper tools and a dog that's fit and able for several hrs, not a grab and hold for twenty mins. " my opinion only" before the trolls get going.
  5. Have you that slate and shale or the sand in it. I was in it yday and will try again Tuesday. That chiltern ground is the worst I've ever constantly hit. We all now bad earths, that take a day to sort. That stuff down there is awesome. Makes a sweaty heap of us all. " character building" so I'm told. For me I like a shovel full, rather have 8/10 foot of soil.
  6. Got a normally rough place sorted easily and quickly today, 1.2m with a layer of sandstone, quarry sat just under the stone. Had it sorted and home just after nine. Happy days.
  7. My ridge line monsoon smock does not leak, two yr old. The pintail gets wet on the elbows when im lay on the floor. Got the torrent for this yr,seems good enough but sweaty. I can only speak as I find.
  8. I use the ridgeline range, you do sweat in any of em. These are cheap enough and are waterproof.
  9. One of my ladies goes quiet when the big bars come in use. The thud and bang can be felt and seen. " god knows what it must be like"
  10. How does the average Russell work!!! very good freind of mine has the hardest dogs I've ever seen, I've kept coloured dogs for 40 yrs not seen a line like em. Even the bitches just grunt. Thank you Bellman and flint.
  11. Back in the sand and stone tmw, big place first light. Wales Saturday, so more rock breaking. 600 odd miles this week. Wouldn't swap it for any thing.
  12. Feel like I've been run over today, that is hard ground to work in, no wonder there is so much quarry to go at.
  13. Hmm ! No idea. I won't enter a discussion again.
  14. Let a 6 month eagerly jump in next to my red dog today, after a quick shot, she was mad excited but no idea, lovely do for me!!! Keen as mustard vur not a clue.
  15. I think its in a book from early 80's poem/story about the " favourite" that s the one I think is most poignant. Will look tmw if I can find it.
  16. Hard hard day! Them chaps that work in the Chilterns " hats off" to ya. Foot an hour with good tools. 3 digs for the day, flint has cut my dogs feet, heads, backs with out their foe having a go back. Give me our red sand any day!
  17. Wise words dillydog, time, and chances, they are not machines!!! Some folk know there lines and expect reactions at a known age, a yr, 15 months blah blah. Bitches start early etc. An experienced eye normally can tell around a yr.
  18. Good lads still out there, two very fine lads picked a dog up for me this morning after we blocked him in last night. 6m deep and moving after 4 hrs under the sod. 100 miles from home. Both on the grd at first light, can't ask for more. Cheers boys.
  19. Bully! Yr a right one ! Sending threatening PMS. No wonder folk don't post.!!!!!
  20. Thanks for the push onto English dogs Neil, we get bye!!! Great post to intice debate, for me I seem to get along just fine with what's here so not much is wrong. I'm always keen to learn though, if you have the magical formula.
