  1. Black streak, I agree with you. And I like the sound of your litter. Send me one! I love deerhounds. They will be too big for rabbits though won't they? Tall order, yes, absolutely. And yet from time to time you hear about a freak stag that can handle big pigs. Honestly though, I don't think its realistic to expect a first class solo hare courser to be a first class finder holder so i agree with you there. What i would like is a first class finder holder that will catch a rabbit and will at least try to catch a hare. The stag i have stops chasing as soon as she realizes its a hare and
  2. Thanks Terra Firma, i appreciate your opinion. Its such a pity that the show fraternity are weakening the working breeds (in my view). A very experienced pig hunting mate has a 2 yo litter he bred. Dam was EBT x English Pointer, sire was pure deerhound. These pups are handy dogs, but just a fraction on the slow side for fast game, and a fraction on the soft side for pigs. I thought the saluki element might be a smarter option than the deerhound, and by increasing the bull element it could increase the drive and hardness. Dunno.
  3. Thanks for your replies. Before this discussion turns into a theoretical debate, what I really want to know is, has anybody seen, in the flesh, a first cross Saluki x EBT? Cheers,

I have a nice staghound bitch who catches me plenty of rabbits and the odd fox, and occasionally a little pig. I've been wondering for some time now whether i could up the stakes (ie catch bigger pigs and hares) by getting a first cross saluki x EBT. You blokes in the UK seem to do a bit more of this type of breeding. Does anyone know of a first cross like this that can catch a hare? If so, do you think it also has the heart to lug a big boar? Plus have the nose to find one? Heart, speed, and nose. P
