  1. Ok, I'm probably going to get a right load of flack and abuse for this, but I'm a member of both forums and I don't agree with the extremists in either of them, either the 'anything that moves shoot it' crowd or the 'oooh, its furry (or spikey) isn't it sweeeet' fluffy lot. You get idiots everywhere. Maybe there are quite a few people like me who can see there are a lot of different angles on something, and learn something from that. Opposing camps thumbing their noses at each other gets nowhere and just leads to more ignorant eejits Yes, thats what some of them do think - but t
  2. Hi Ditch Heres a recipe for log-splitting: A good chopping block about 18 inches diameter x 12 high (makes life much easier and avoids busting concrete floor) Splitting axe Forget the lump hammer, use a sledge hammer ! Place log on block, wallop with axe (you'll get a bit of an idea from impact sound whether its gonna co-operate and split ok) If theres no-one around to hold axe for you grip handle between knees (no, not joking!) Belt the flat back of axe-head with sledge hammer and listen for that sound that tells you its splitting.......
  3. And for what its worth heres my tuppence worth...... I think 'religion' and 'spirituality' are two different things ..... religion is man-made and has often to do with control and power, spirituality is a direct link between a person and what they believe in, whatever name they give it. For me I think the American Indians summed it up - 'the earth is my mother and the spirit is my father' I know when I'm hurting I go to the earth for comfort and healing. People hurt, the earth heals.
  4. Don't know if its any help but my site wasn't showing up closer than page 10 in a Google search. Then a pro said put in a decent 'Links' page and make sure you're using validated coding......a week of muttering and cursing later Hey Presto and Google Page 1 on searches. But like Ditch says Heres a link to the website validator ...put the website address in and it'll show you what needs sorting..... W3C Markup Validation
  5. Wow....! but no words can describe what should be done to the so called human beings who treat dogs (or any animal) like those previous B* owners did
  6. A friend used to use it to keep the rabbits away from a certain patch of illegal plants (around, not on them!) and reckoned it worked a treat
  7. Get yourself a load of turf in - lovely stuff - its good for putting in at night and then it'll all burn away nice and slow and still be glowing in the morning........and it smells better than coal does I use a mix of wood and turf and chuck in a bit of coal to bump the heat up, but I don't like coal........or the cinders it leaves....
  8. Yeah I got lucky today and saw one close-up - wish I had a good enough camera to have got a picture...
  9. Good luck with that Dan - do you use reiki for the animal healing you do?
  10. Sally's don't need any rooting gel - they produce whatever hormone it is themselves, so they'll grow fine just stuck straight in the ground, so long as its not too waterlogged. The guy at the tree nursery where I used to work would stick some willow cuttings in a jam jar, leave them for about a week, take them out and then use that water to get other cuttings rooting.
  11. Yes.....the plants I find never seem to look like the illustrations in the id books!
  12. Hi Darcy, don't know if they'll be any help, but heres a couple of links, first to Bugloss and the second to Green Alkanet...... Bugloss Green Alkanet
  13. If its not Bugloss is it Green Alkanet?
  14. It didn't happen to escape from a government research centre like the foot and mouth did it?
  15. Really sorry to hear about Pup - he sounds like he was one special dog
  16. Yeah, looks like a Cut-leaved Mallow (Malva alcea) - they're good survivors!
  17. I think I can tell the difference by now.....
  18. Reckon the cattle round here are all mad! The dog doesn't trust them either and hides behind me - which puts me in the front line so I keep well clear of any field with them in. But it was sheep that got me - feeding them one winter and the ram sneaked up behind, belted me on the backside and I did the classic - feet up, bum flat on the ground and 50 sheep trampling over for the spilled nuts And farmer, ex-husband and son pissing themselves laughing......
  19. And there was me thinking the dead vole under my computer smelled bad! Thank * it wasn't a mole
  20. That snakes a beauty.... One of the only things that would make me want to live in a hot climate would be having a house snake to keep the rats and mice down......though one that size would probably have the cat and dog too!
  21. Hi TF if you follow this link you'll see what the website validator at W3C thinks of the coding on the opening page for microsoft.com ! www.w3.org But I agree you don't need 'fancy pants software' - my website is written in notepad with a couple of browsers open to see how it looks online whilst I'm writing it....
  22. 'cos he was stuck in the chair and couldn't reach the ice!
