  1. Going back to villages. A lot of properties were privatly rented by locals rents were put up and up or evicted then sold. As said money is the root of the problem and no new social houses built even after right to buy they never used the money to build more. Cheers Arry
  2. I too was a Hob carrier on a Wimpy site when I was 22 in 63 hard graft up and down all day. They f****d me about trying to make me keep 4 going instead of 2 I kicked the site agents door open he nearly shit himself had a partner the next day lol. Cheers Arry
  3. Sausage Egg and Chips. Cheers Arry
  4. There is an element of truth in that as well mate but its the house agents that sell the houses and they want the bucks. Also planners here are not interested in social housing or first time buying property's. Builders are no longer local Builders it's big corporate companies that what to build 4 and 5 bedroom houses on the side of the river and the planners let them get away with it. Or as I believe they're in the back pocket of the corporate company's. Thing is the young move away because the cant afford to rent or buy they build their lives and job away, The parent die or move to a hom
  5. Thats partly true but even fishermen cant afford to live in the village they fish out of. It's people that earn't their money in London places like that that have bought these places. Restaurants, Pubs and Hotels Struggle to get staff because they cant afford to rent or buy. Same goes for nurses cant find accommodation they can afford it's mental. Whole villages empty in the winter all bought out by the rich. My home town now prices gone through the roof because the Sunday papers and Mags say its one of the best places to live. They move in get on the council then start changing the very

  8. I remember Gran having one and a thing like a three legged stool on a stick with a handle. In fact I think Granddad cut the stick off and made it a stool when they got a upright washing machine. Grans boiler was Gas she didn't have Electric even the lights were Gas. Cheers Arry
  9. Here in Devon and Cornwall locals just cant afford a house they have to move. An ex social housing across the road from me has just gone on the market for £500,000 its just gone mental. Wages for a lot of people are low they cant afford to live in their home town. I hear the North South divide but the South West is just being taken over by people that retire down here or by a second home or move down and work from home. Cheers Arry
  10. These tales of our youth bring memories flooding back. This one is about a Teacher that lived in the same culture-de-sack as us. I fell off one of them scooters you put one foot on and push with the other going down a steep hill, hit my head on the kerb. The result was a cracked scull and a lumber puncher to remove pressure off my brain a bit worry to my parents. After spending some time in hospital I went back to school and after dinner time while in line back to the class room a teacher hit me over the head with a book for talking. That evening I was having tea (bread and jam) I sa
  11. I went to a school for a while that was run by Nuns and they were nasty b*****ds. Thrash you for next to nothing punch you tell you you would not amount to any thing (well proved them wrong had my own groundworks business for years). There was a big old Walnut tree at the side of the playground and when it had the walnuts on it we would kick the football to knock them down. Now walnut have a green outer coat bit like a conker when first off the tree only harder to get off. This outer coat on the nut would leave a yellow stain on you fingers so the Nuns would know what you had been doing. They

  15. Born in 51 and lived on a new estate us kids all raked around together and to be honest it was great. We was all lean things nobody had much money or food. My old man drank most away in the pub and the rest in the bookies, mother did her best but was hopeless cook. Us kids would bugger off to the woods making bows and arrows spears making camps come home as the sun was going down great memories. Evenings raking around the estate playing kick the can or as it got later knock down ginger till one mother after another called to come home leaving maybe couple of us sitting on the wall chatti
