  1. Dodger, feel verry sorry for yer loss. I think your completely entitled to put a picture of your dead dog on here if it helps you in any way: IMHO death is a part of hunting whether it is the quarry, or in the case of very unfortunate running accidents like that of your canine pal: because lets face it they are more likeley to run into trouble than your average bored pampered pooch. At least you know he died what dogs are meant to do: hunting!.....I bet that many a pampered pooch would be green with envy. Cheers Eggy
  2. a couple of the fellas on the shoot were i beat give there dogs mars bar before we start in the morning. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is very toxic for dogs. A bit of chocolate probably only gives them an irretable bowel, but who would want to give 'em the squirts just before running? I give em a small light snack before (eg a bit of salt-free stock), and a good meal when the've settled at home (>1hr after excersize) Cheers Eggy
  3. Cracking looking pups mate Whats their makeup......Think royston is takin ta micky Lab  Cheers Eggy
  4. IMHO White dogs and merles CAN harbour some recessive genes. I've come across plenty of deaf white dogs (eg dalmatians) and merle x merle (wanted or unwanted) can result in serious inhereted birth defects. Brindle, black and fawns are less of a risk in that area.....So color does matter in some way genetically!!!!!!!! I've been told that brindle (in a longdog) originally comes from the introduction of Staffie (a comletely differnt animal from the modern staffy) in the greyhound many 100's of years ago to spice them up and that brindle is a dominant (genetically) coat pattern. Color doe

    Ferret rape

Similary, I've heard that 70% of vasectomized hobs are able to produce kits after the 2nd year due to severed sperm-ducts rejoining. Has anyone had this happening?? Cheers Eggy

    hob

Right nice one fella [bANNED TEXT]! But I'm not even conviced he's a hob as his nuts (which should be well dangling at his age at this time 'o year) are well out of sight Cheers Eggy

  11. Is there a need to get hungup on protein % ? In case of "complete, incomplete food": Really protein content (exept if all of it assured from animal sources) doesn't mean that much IMHO: Beans & lentils are on average 22-35% protein (grains much lower) but dogs can't process them as well as meat, and most dogs hate pulses  Proteins are made up of combinations of 20 amino acids, we need 9 of 'em, cats/ferrets need an extra one -10 in total (taurine) only found in meat (so a veggy cat or ferret is a dead 'un) and dogs need 9 as well. But the ratio of amino acids in meat (requir
  12. Whole raw carcass [bANNED TEXT]. Fur & everything -gut..(would do any harm but's much more easy carrying the lot)..The best!!!! but don't mix raw and dry. If you feed raw [bANNED TEXT] on a regular basis it's good 2 freeze'em for a couple of weeks to kill any tapeworm cysts in the raw meat i was told. Or just deworm 4X a year which is a good practice anyway. Cheers Eggy
  13. Sorry to hear about your loss . RIP Lil
  14. Do muslins have a sense of humor? Here's the prophet mohammad cartoon in a Danish newspaper: And the result........ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4670370.stm No sense of humor if you ask me Cheers Eggy
  15. Looks like you didn't get the reply you were after then .....why ask the question in the 1st place :realmad: :realmad: ..I'll say no more
  16. NO. too young IMO. I started to give mine a try between 4-5 months (and don't expect 2 much). Inexperienced young jills can get a real kicking from a buck rabbit I've been told. Cheers Eggy
  17. Maybe just a dodgy bunny I give mine whole rabbits, raw, uncooked -the gut, but with the fur (roughage). Very good& healthy (BARF) and unlike cooked bones (dangerous!!) everything is digested without a problem. The only thing I do is freeze 'em for a while to kill any parasites (tapeworm-cysts). Cheers Eggy
  18. Bulsmilk: If the're shot in the belly, the gut-contents, and gut-bugs will spead inside and very quickly spoil the meat defenetly overnight Did you remove the anal glands (2 grey pea-sized organs lying inside the body at the base of the tail when pulled) The rabbit will taste & smell foul if left on the rabbit during cooking. Also could be a burst gal-bladder, meat will taste foul if it gets bile on. Snared rabbits (left overnight on the wire) always taste OK Cheers Eggy

    tics

Do NOT use vaseline, nail polish, alcohol, burning matches etc. etc. Then the tick dies and regurgitates its (infectious) stomach content back into the ferrets/dogs bloodstream!!!! Using fine forceps grasp the tick by its head, and slowly pull it straight out. Or use frontline preventative http://www.placervillevet.com/tick_remove.htm
  20. Just a bit of news from my home country: The Dutch government are very likely going to ban Burka's (Muslim headscarfs were you can see only the eyes) today in public places. This is a " anti-terrorist" measure after worldwide bomings and the murder of Leo Van Gogh (a relative of good old Vincent Van Gogh) by a lone muslin extremist.......Well...a step in the right direction.... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1501410/posts
  21. What's your opinion the german wirehaired pointer x Greyhound cross. How do you rate them? Did see 1 a couple of days ago, nice lookin animal, but no idea what they are like just out of interest. Cheers Eggy
  22. Had a few beers to many last nite  , so started ferreting a bit late. Gained new permission after getting 10 bunnies on my usual spot last week which has nice flat and easy accesable burries. This one is tough! loads of dense brambles, Haythorn, stones etc. but there are many large burries (most which are completely overgrown) and 'zillions' of bunnies. Must clear the brambles next time! My dog marked some easy accesable burries, so I have done them for now (2 smallish sets) Dog marked, so getting the nets down: my dog doesn't like the waiting Nets are down &Ferr
