No probs Fledge, I've met loads of bullx lurchers since i started hunting with my collyx, and they were the nicest & gamest dogs i've ever met!!! It's true, but I'm ashamed to say i wouldn't wan't one because of the publics misconseption about the breed and future implications......I hope things calm down However if more incedents like the one with the the little girl (and the moron dog owner) politicians will jump on the bandwagon and things might turn sour! All the best with yours! YIS Eggy

here here well said that person !!!!!!!! If you read my previous post correctly (can you???) you'll find that i said there's no "kit" currently available to do this (ie identifying pitts). ......Yes right now it is not done because there never was a need to identify a mongrels (ie lurchers) background (only for identifying/assuring parentage kennel bred lineage ($$$)). However It can be done very easily if you want to identify "a pitbull type"-specific bit of DNA in a 'mongrel'! (it's callend linking phenotype and genotype (DNA)), and there are 'relatively' simple ways to do this to

It's gonna be very simple to establish (by DNA (PCR)) methods)) whether it is a genuine pitt (orr cross) or not if you want to!! To add to the insult...it can be done on a hair follicel or mouth swab FROM A LIVE DOG (no more comments)!!! So yes it's possably very simple to know whether yer (live) dog contains genuine pitt DNA traces or not (if a kit is gonna be available??)...................I guess it will be

Excuse the ignorance, but why should we believe you? Am not blindly jumping to the lad's defence here, but, he does know what's what with regard to DNA testing and the ability to prove (or inability in this case) that a dog was a banned breed. We are very lucky in the people we have met, a very helpful genuine man. To the PhD person........ Does it sound correct to say that it is impossible to state 100% that a dog was a Pitbull once it is dead (ie at Post Mortem) ?? I ask because DNA testing alone does not prove a dog is a Pitbull, there are numerous other factors they

Excuse the ignorance, but why should we believe you? The law relates to any 'pit bull type' dog - so I have to wonder why ANYONE want want a lurcher that resembles a pit bull type? Sorry but i had to interfere .....it is theoretically very possible to distinguish different dog breeds from one another by DNA, just as it is possible to seperate individuals ( 1 man in a crime scene by DNA.....DNA forensics work very well and used extensively on humans today (or even to trace individuals ethnicisity) ). Similarily genomic DNA of Different dog breeds are very very similar, but

99% sure that ferret (albino) spent a while messing about in the coal bunker Hence the black soot on his hands Cheers Eggy

Most animals (eg bunny fox etc) vision is in Black&white.....IMO filters have a use, but they really are an 'expeniseve' sales gimmic to reduce the force of a beam (an adjustible beam is the best imo). So idon't think you're wrong at all Blando! Cheers Eggy

Hi JD Correct me if i'm wrong but i thought the 240 really is a 170, just with a bigger dome (240 - 170 interchangable domes domes for a 100W bulb) unlike the 140, which is 50W and would melt with a 100W bulb. So is the wiring any different????? Cheers Eggy

I ve used a DIY yobby which served me very well.........untill.... Recently I bought a lightforce 170 with an inbuilt dimmer.....Very pleased with it......INITIALLY (good dome, adjustibale beam etc..), i was sort of expecting the wiring to get cracked up at 1 point (so many complaints heard) but its never good when it does actually happen.... Be prepared to get yer solder iron out and get a new wire & cigar connector to make it better.....Thats not very good for a commercial kit of almost £90 really..is it? Especially when having it bust properly in the middle of a good night C

Agreeing with colliejohn. Pidge, don't rush things...Go for the right dog for you (lamping/stamina and wheather resistance & brains but must get worked regularly (high energy) and can be a bit more 'strung'... or sheer speed less stamina, more prone to injury and cold, but more biddable eg 3/4 grey 1/4 collie). You want her mainly for ferreting, Lamping, mouching or coursing (pe-ban)? I would wait for the right pup from proven home bred (insted of puppy peddlers) working stock...Ideally (if you have the option)....you would want a collie/greys bred over many generations (line)

Dog names should be short'n sweet (long names are a waaaaist of time) Diana is THE Greek mythiological hunting godess. Why not call him Dian (short'nsweet and not as common as eg Gyp, Sky or Scooby (common as muck) etc ) and hope yer whishes come tue Cheers Eggy

Makes sense Cheers Eggy

17 A/hr x 12V= 204W/hr Lightforce 170=100W bulb, so 204Whr/100W=2.04 hrs So sould last just over 2hours continuous burning! Cheers Eggy

It's a bit of misconseption that (wild) dogs go for the "guts" firts. Sure, a part of their diet will be the vegetable matter in the guts (eg stomach, small&large insestines& the contents), but in the wild the belly is opened up by the alpha males/females to get to the highly nutritious organs such as the lungs, heart, kidney, liver, pancreas etc etc. FIRST.... NOT the intestines!!!! Test this out yourself: put a bunch of sheep lights/offal (heart&lungs&windpipe, kidney etc.) and a bunch of sheep intestines and a chunk of mutton!..... and let your hungry dogs choose!!!...He
