I’m a fifties/sixties kid. I say it often, I’m glad I was born when I was and had the best childhood. You had to live it to know what I mean. I had two brothers (sadly no longer here) who were my mentors and showed me the way and parents who encouraged independence and a free spirit. I’m still knocking about the woods and moors, jumping fences, walking miles and climbing fells. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m very lucky9 points

I got a pointer and lurcher team the lurcher is also a pointer x , I only work my dogs day time on big open hill i do try to stick to gullies and big patches of rush suits the pointer more , she has best nose Iv ever seen if it’s there she’ll find it , the lurcher is better at the longer hunts once it’s up and gone , I treat the pointer like lurcher though just let her go don’t call her or even try to guide her work just let her do her edited to add I’m looking to add to the team next summer so if anyone’s breeding any pointer x or have a good stud dog get in touch9 points

I am 64 next and I know our generation had the best time off it despite certain politicians making it hard for a lot of us. I was recently up at my eldest daughters walking the dog for her when my 12 year old grandson was in the kitchen with his year older cousin and they were going down the woods to make a den and he told his cousin to show his grandad the Swiss army knife his dad had let him take down the woods I reached into my pocket as I had the same pocket knife with other gadgets on it and said to my daughter can our Archie have this her reply was a resounding NO. Found it a bit sad in8 points

I have often had the conversation with pals back in the U.K. who say “oh, I wish I could move away” and my answer is this, you can but it depends what you are willing to sacrifice or let go of. If you really want to move away from a situation that don’t feel comfortable then you will, but what a lot of people want is to do it and still have everything they have now which isn’t always possible. Its depends, imho, on what you want and what you need because they can be very different things. You may not live in luxury but luxury can mean not having to get on the motorway at 4:30 ev8 points

It's been about 5 years since I've ran a dog of my own and probably coming on 10 years since I've worked a lurcher regularly. I kept a pup back from the last litter my bitch had 7 years ago but unfortunately due to life taking the twists and turns that it does. I never really got to see what type of worker my last dog matured into. He still lives with my parents but he's more of a retired couch potato than a worker these days. Anyway, bring on the start of 2024. Life's different, I'm settled. Business ticking over ok, family man and I've finally got 5 minutes to myself again. I've7 points

As I have mentioned on here I think they will struggle to gain a majority there will be a lot of protest votes for the libs and greens think reform will damage the Tory’s more and a lot of people have become so disconnected they won’t even bother, the way this batshit stupid country is going hamas would probably clean up if they stood in the uk we are f****d regardless of the outcome and only a revolution can save us now, which is why the powers that be are walking us into ww3 as they know all the saps will turn to them for help once again just like they did in the scamdemic, oft said but very7 points

Dufftown "Rabbit Headed" Cat - Oriental Cat Comparison In 1988 a gamekeeper at Dufftown, North East Scotland, trapped a large black cat in a fox trap. It had a slim muscular body, long legs and a long whip like tail – all typical of a black Oriental domestic cat. Di Francis suggested that in profile, its head looked rabbit-like with a small brain-case and long Roman nose. She convinced herself – and others unfamiliar with domestic breeds -that it was a primitive unknown cat species. In fact, all extant pictures of the Dufftown cat show a triangular face, large ears and long nos4 points

Had a few 410's over the years all bought for 50 quid from a bloke in the pub.... One memorable time I lost one was when me and a mate had just shot a morehen un bekniwn to us a birdwatcher was in a hide the other side of the pond and he knew us...lol....we hid the gun and legged it... A few hours later at home....there's that loud knock on the door some of us on here have herd a few times...lol Down the cop shop I'm saying Jack shit ...telling them f**k all cos I know they will never find the 410 that has my prints on... So I'm being questioned and in walks the local high4 points

We're living on it now mate, the top floor is finished, kids rooms and bathroom, heating system and plumbing in (new oil boiler needed at some point) first fix electrics in on middle and ground floor, still using a split between old and new.. hopefully finish middle floor this summer, then onto ground floor, that's a bid undertaking so need to get my head down and hopefully get on it next year... we've made a few downstairs rooms liveable, the kitchen is the big one, complete rip out required! Long term we will hopefully build a small place in the top field for us and holiday let all of i4 points

70's/80's for me but it wasn't easy and in all fairness as kids there was no money we made our own entertainment which seems to be a lost trait with the youngsters of today. Seems to be a real hate on for anyone in the 55+ bracket from youngsters at the moment, heard some pretty nasty vitriol on podcasts etc.4 points

I see us ending up with weak government possibly coalition, maybe labour will win, god forbid getting back towards EU and allowing 16/17 yr olds to vote , maybe they'll have to tackle illegal migration if they want a bigger bite . I don't know anyone who's voting labour, Wales are sick of them so you'll see a swing to plaid or uk reform or libs , down in Devon will be Tory libs , I think some will vote tory to try and stable economy, I'll vote for anyone bar tory or labour4 points

I think everyone is different mate, different personalities, dealing with different circumstances etc etc…..so the reality is, there isn’t one size fits all. I know for me, if I decided to do something I’d just do it no matter what age (obviously I have to consider what everyone else wants and needs) but if it really mattered we would all just do it and see how it came out….that’s pretty much how I have lived my life in lots of ways. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not some well travelled maverick adventurer who has seen the world, more just I want to do something and I just do it and see wh4 points

Winchester Cooey my first 12 bore bought it off a Copper my mate bought a folding .410 of him as well. It was the amnesty when people was encouraged to hand their gun in, they did and he flogged them Lol, only paid a tenner. Used to get the licence at the post office then. Born in 51 and lived on a council estate as you said Byron we had f**k all but we had every thing. In the holidays gang of all the local kids would bugger off to the wood all day make camps bows and arrows, no water no food. Sometime cut up a swede from the field and crunch on that if we needed a drink it was from the strea3 points

22 inches from ears to tip of it's tail is not a big cat I think we all agree on that. But it does look very long in the leg. The media don't help when they start spouting Big Cat at 22 inches theres moggies around here that size. Cheers Arry3 points

Good read mate. Agree with most of it, except not wanting to be young again. I'd give it a go. There's a few things I would change if I had a second go at life.2 points

Personally i found that whole " just f****n off somewhere " a typical grass aint always greener type scenario......admittedly it was around the same time my daughter gave birth so the being a grandad thing was a hard one to walk away from....but not even that, what seemed like heaven at the time turned into little more than a holiday home as we just missed so much about the every day life that we'd built i think if you surround yourself with the right people its going to be too much to just turn your back on.....i like doing traditional stuff, seeing the same faces ive become accustomed to and g2 points

Andrew Bridgen already saying we are at war with Russia and Rishi has brought the GE forward so he's not in charge when its officially announced. National service, preparedness message from the government, emergency alarms tested on phones, NATO "training" on the Russian border etc. Bridgen is a bit "out there" but he's not like the rest of the sheep in government so who knows.2 points

Brilliant pics mate. I have only seen the pointer breeds working with BOP and the one that stuck in my memory was a small racey Vizla bitch that worked alongside a goshawk and as I watched it I kept imagining what lurchers could be produced with a decent grew bred to her especially with the good feet and bone structure of these breeds an hardy injury biddable lurcher could have quite possibly been produced in hindsight.2 points

Just back from Orkney so I thought I’d update the lads that commented on the thread. Bit of a trek to get there. 16 hours drive and then the 2 hour ferry. Worth every minute though. Everything mentioned above is true. Friendly people, remoteness, good fishing, plenty of military history and lots to do. We seen some fantastic places with not another person in sight. I’ll be heading back up there but hopefully for a longer trip.2 points
