My dogs bushing around sheep happens daily ,and Id admit that at one time or another, each pup has at some stage thought to add sheep/lambs to their hit list .I expect it .I own my own sheep and normally drive em up into a corner and make them break either side of me & my pup or dog ,I set the E-collar on high and once the dog has started to chase I hit them with some shock while saying nothing ,at times some have had a second go ,treated in the same manner ,then from that point on I use my voice to control my dogs .What I don't want to see is a dog ,looking at a sheep like lunch ,and yo

I don't think it's as clear cut as that, I think you have to take into account a variety of factors, and there's a large variable, such as is the sheep in a field in a flock or bombing out of bracken , are they randomly in a forest , smelling a bit different or being hunted up but unsighted etc. Then how much stock training has the dog had , it goes on and on , I personally don't think its a clear cut PTS job, but it does impact on trust and make for some less relaxing mooches...

I personally don’t think nothing will come of these deerhounds all your get is people that like them for novelty reasons trying there luck to run one but by 16 generations in they should be producing consistent hard well put together dogs that are able to work efficiently on anything the uk can offer. Dp would be better off sticking his best worker deerhound to a proper working line bred bull cross as a outcross to produce deerhound type hunting dogs rather than chasing kc registration or trying to get to 25th generation

Anyone who says they have never had a hunting dog have a funny moment of some kind with sheep is probably telling porkies. Having a dog which isn’t at all stock broken, may work for some folk, but for most of us it’s a liability. But I can imagine for a lot of folk as much as they can do some stock breaking, the opportunities are not always as readily available as to others. Ive always taken the approach that it’s best to make sheep totally un exciting, part of the scenery, something they recognise and know what it is. My lot tend to grow up around them and see them as

shavings in the run....at one end....and straw in the nest area....cant see it being ver comfy for the ferrets to sleep in shavings...and they cant burrow in to it when its cold

Got an organ stole in 91 at a biker do in Waterford..... Came round naked in a strange tent getting the life humped outta me by a woman twice my age as her friend sat watching. Lol. Seems odd trying to get pedigree status as that will just lead to the destruction of the breed as it has with the original Deerhound.

Yes I've googled the article and Hancock does suggest KC recognition. However, in the documentary, Dave Platts himself does not suggest it. Jackie Sykes ( secretary) and Dave Sleight do not mention it either. They do talk about English Deerhound recognition but not via the KC route. It's all hot air anyway...they are deerhound lurchers.

pity , the owner of the dog, didnt give it good hiding , when he pulled the dog of the sheep , it was perfect right then hit the dog, with still holding the sheep down, get the dog on the lead , right over the sheep, then give the dog good hiding , you got be brutal , it got to get in the dogs head, that them wooly things mean pain if it get to close to them. it better to do this than , get the dog shot fact , hope you sort it out mate .

Would take longer but it’s worth it unless your made of money, when did he do it ? I’ve found in the past that unless you get them stitched on the same day the stitches will end up coming out anyway and you’ve wasted your money

Always used shavings, never had an issue. I cover the whole hutch with shavings, then put shredded tissue on top of them in the bedding area. I dont used anything in the court, apart from the corner they crap in, which is also a pile of shavings

wrong. get the bugger amongst sheep and other livestock, as soon as my pups were able go out in the field, straight away introduced to livestock , as soon as the pup clocked em, a sharp tug on the lead with a firm word NO, you cant avoid sheep fields we a working do, as for tuther poster, no godd giving ya dog a slap afterwards, gotta catch the bugger doing it

I had genuinely never heard of the bloke but I watched a clip on the news yesterday of an interview he did and he was a quiet, polite and well spoken nice young man from what I seen of him. Came across very well.

Cut away the dead skin,hair and keep it clean,flush with saltwater few times a day,stop the dog licking it,get a heat lamp over it ?if it's been 5 days,f**k the vet off..

Let us know how he gets on, I’d say stitching it on Wednesday when he done it 5 days ago from then is a complete waste of time and could end up taking it even longer to heal, I’d almost guarantee the stitches won’t hold and any flaps of skin will be dead by then

Some dogs need geeing up to tackle any thing bigger than a rabbit which will work for me fine next time round for a quiet life Others need geeing down as there default is to nail most things going

Always used shavings just a bit more in the sleeping quarters easy to get a big bale from a equine centre and there dust free . Never liked straw , hay etc anything with a hollow stem could harbour bugs and ferrets are bright enough not to eat shavings or remove them from meat i think

I was only young lad when I went with him on walks "trapping/poaching " he had good market for finches and I'm sure he lost many from liming but he had other ways of catching them .

I've had sheep issues, was far easier living in Wales , getting dogs amongst sheep and familiar, I had a bomb proof dog that was solid with sheep out on the tops, had a e collar on tingle for recall and he decided to chase sheep , blew his head off and would cross a field to avoid them which is actually a pain when working a dog.
