Kids limping around because of verrucas, heads shaved because of nits, painted blue because of ring worm, legs in metal frames because of rickets, but, hey, spare athought for the poor kids of today who need counselling if someone called them names on face book. We were positively cosseted in the "good old days" ! ? ! Cheers.11 points

A long time ago in World long forgotten I had a young JB bred bitch that surprisingly made 24” at the shoulder. I went for a mooch about one Saturday afternoon/ Evening with the pup just over a year old and the old dog who was 10. We circled round the farm so we could come up to the hotspot with the wind in our faces. We dodged through the wood because two men could be seen around the the barn that was being built in an adjacent field even then people didn’t like our way of life. The pup was off her lead but the old dog firmly on a slip because frankly he’s a dick. Just into the wood and a Coc8 points

I’m going to weigh in with I had my eldest at 21, I was still studying and had 3 jobs to cover needs. I used to look around at the scum parents in Blackpool (where we lived, studied and worked) and wonder how is it people can live and raise their kids in certain ways. I was on Telly once, fitting blinds in a house on grange park, the theme was the two sisters (15 & 14) had a race to get pregnant! I’ve never smelt a house like it. Fuuckload of puppies met me at the gate, garden overgrown and full of shit, no carpets in the house, bedding that hadn’t been washed in years… fuucking foul!8 points

Over the last 18 months or so I feel that i have really progressed as an angler; Im lucky enough to not only fish in a club with a high level of competition but also to actually fish with some very competent anglers and then I've also had alot of help and guidance from our own Arry. I spent the first half of the year chasing a spotted ray but unfortunately failed on that and then from august til now i have been targetting mainly smalleyes and thornbacks with the odd session hussing. Ive managed to fish some beautiful places and seen some really interesting things along the way and have managed5 points

I started out with this lad when i was 12 and we stuck it out together for the next 55 years Ferreting, long netting and all other sorts of mischief , at the start Rabbits were very thin on the ground and each weekend we would cycle to some spot about 30 miles for a couple of Rabbits though one Sunday in 64 we landed on a disused Railway line near to Grantham and caught 34 a lot which were retrieved with Georges big line Ferret and a lot of digging, on the way home we were stopped by the Police for having no lights and the Rabbits were confiscated as they were not satisfied with our ex5 points

I remember just before I got kicked out of school I was in a classroom and one of my mates let off a real ripper during religious studies. I was laughing my head off and the teacher told me to come to the front and get the cane. Obviously I wasn't going to grass on my mate, so I yawned big guy style and told him to get on with it. When the cane hit my hand I grabbed it and wouldn't let go and grinned at him. The class was in uproar and the teacher went apeshit. He started kicking and punching me, and, just for mischief, I pretended I was going to hit him with the cane. The head and deputy he5 points

Not to mention corporal punishment in schools. Getting the cane was routine: lateness, dirty hands, unpolished shoes or not paying attention were all dealt with by the cane. Truancy was six of the best. Being thick was deemed to be laziness and punished ruthlessly. It was brutal and a lot of the teachers were in the wrong job but at least it taught you that bad actions have consequences. I don't think modern day kids quite get this concept. However I'm not advocating the return of corporal punishment, but there needs to be credible deterrents in schools.5 points

There's another thread about truant officers, but can anybody remember inspections from the bug nurse? I can remember being the only kid in the class who had the offending creatures in my locks. They sent me home with a fine comb, some tar soap and some ointment. Took me ages to live it down!? Think I'm still traumatised.4 points

General, I know by your posts you're a genuine digging man. But whatever went on in the past, will you ever give it a rest and let bygones be bygones. I love my hunting but I don't give up my time defending hunting and terrierwork, the way these boys do and I for one appreciate every effort these guys make. Are they perfect, maybe not, but who is? At least they're trying, which is a lot more that can be said for the majority of us. I don't know the men involved but forget the past and look to the future. Now more than ever, we need to unite to save our sport!!...ATB4 points

Went out this morning for fallow but the fog drove me out of the fields and into the woods. Plenty of deer about but the rhodies are too thick to be able to do much with them and extraction would've been a nightmare so went for breakfast instead3 points

I refuse to tune in to talk about Jake Paul etc. Its nothing to do with true boxing. Even the Tyson Roy Jones fight was a farce. Fury probably is the best heavyweight around but where's the opposition? How many class fighters has he fought? Windmill Wilder was never world class. Cruiser weight Usyk is a top act, but if Fury bullies him like he did with Wilder, he will surely win. At the end of the day there will be at lest three stones between them. Joshua has been overcoached, he fights like a cautious robot. He needs to be let off his trainer's leash and re-discover the fighter wit3 points

It always tastes better when you win ?? At 40 years old I still wish I hadn’t given it up. I was trained by a big name in the Judo world and trained with champions who represented Blighty at the Olympics. Ah regrets! @goldfinch2007 If he’s taking 1st now, he’s a future talent mate Support him through his “discovering birds” years lol3 points

Yes I remember a lot of ex soldiers as teachers. Also remember I had an uncle with shell shock. He used to suddenly stand to attention and go on parade in his head. He would march up and down the living room. He had a permanent shake, his whole body would just react to any noise. When I first started drinking, pubs were full of blokes still living the war in their heads. f**k the good old days, give me central heating, a telly in the bedroom, supermarkets with fresh produce from all over the world and hot water on tap. The only things I miss are the slower pace of life and the lack of commun3 points

Day 4 ( my day and the Christmas shoot ) not the best day weather wise, with thick fog all day, the birds just didn’t know what was expected of them once they got above the trees, they were getting up and a fair few went back on themselves or sat in the tops of the trees once they reached the fog, we did the usual drives, first off was the “ tip drive “ and again some good birds came for the end of this drive, my guest Mosh took probably the 2 birds of the day from this one, next was “ Gordon’s pen “ and as expected the birds couldn’t deal with the fog but at least everyone got a few shots off3 points

Can remember my old junior school music teacher Mr Price would be blazing a Benson and hedges while playing the piano in morning assembly circa 88...in the comp 1990 and we had the 'whipperene' who would fly around trying to catch anyone 'mitching' ?.. Couple of times I would borrow a different tie and spend a few hrs at another comprehensive school pretending I was a new starter??2 points
