I had some help on the shoot today , my grandson came along . I got the nod from the contractor that he was cutting the barley in the 20 acre field above the shoot. So I took him to watch it being cut . Much better than the Xbox .

He told me he was going to wait for it that night and i said what are you going to use? He told me that he would wait with a borrowed thermal spotter then flick the lamp on and shoot it. As i wasn't going to be foxing for two nights i offered to take the Drone of my rifle, fit it to his and show him how to zero it. He didn't want to bother as it would be ok to shoot it with the lamp. He is more of a dog lad really although he knows his way around a shotgun and 22lr , centerfires are new to him . Yes we’ve got the grandkids three days a week for the holidays. I think the boy enjoys getting out and about , I’ve got him driving the mule along the line of feeders while I top up the hoppers . I also got the air rifle out and got him plinking.

So, last night didn’t go to plan to say the least, I arrived at the shoot around 8 and made my way to the far side ( back of the piggeries towards the campsite) the lad was still taking bales off the field and wouldn’t be done until about 10, so for the next hour while he cleared the top of the field we had a walk around the piggeries on the look out for a buck seen as I took the .243 with me. depends on how far you want to drive each day.....a nice drive from where you are the first week would be up through Torridon ...kinlockewe ...up the side of loch maree to Gairloch ....then at poolewe you could drive up lochewe to firemoore sands beach which is stunning and if you have kids they will love that beach as will you....if the tide is out there is a natural pool about 2 feet deep that quite large but great for the kids to play in ...also at poolewe if your in laws or yourself are in to gardening there is Inverewe gardens to have look round ...its national trust so if your a member i

Saw this last night but I’d just got in and was knackered… I think a fair few of these misses are good shots but the bullet strike splatters, I’ve had a few over last few months that I’ve had to look for and others that have required a follow up after being down for a while and getting back up for a final dash. Went today. No traffic was in by 845. Was a fair bit to look at but as said earlier if you took clothing and food out it would be very small. Remember going as a kid in the eighties and people selling ferrets and pups at campsite and showground. I know those days are gone and the internet has killed off a lot of the deals but still a nice walk round. Had a good look at new thermal and NV quite fancy a spotter with lrf but don't want to sell a kidney to upgrade. Also can't see any NV sight that compares to drone yet
