Just back from a mooch down the lane with the dog and finally managed a few pheasants. I haven't seen any about in weeks but tonight I spotted half a dozen at least so, looking good for the future.....hopefully9 points

21tts, had a good long working life. Very versitile dog caught all sorts with him. Always seemed to punch above his weight.. Don't get me wrong little dogs have there limitations compared to a big dog but you will be surprised what a little dog can achieve.8 points

The lad was proper helpful, he rang me to say it’s been posted and will be my gun shop on Thursday, on another note, I’ve just got off the phone with a lad that was given my number as he’s got a problem fox, I didn’t let on that I knew who he was, because this lad has a lot of farm land not far from me, so I’ll be off up there this week to see if I can sort it quickly and maybe get an in, on the rest of his land ?6 points

Yes. Well ... Seriously though, mate? It's just a modern sickness, isn't it? People ~ I don't suppose it's even exclusively women. Look at some of the kuntz on here; Consistently wrecking entire fukking threads. And it's All about " Look At Me!!! ". Like drunks, in a pub (Remember those? Pubs?) who think everyone's admiring their loud and boorish behaviour. We really just wish they weren't there. They don't get the message.4 points

Last year two lads my way have been prosecuted for shooting a duck with an air rifle. And they had permission to be on the land for rabbits etc. Judge ordered the air rifle to be seized and destroyed and the two lads fined. Best not to eh. You never know who might spot you. And an air rifle isn't the gun to use.4 points

"Can't stop ,l have a pike to catch!" These were my words to my mate as l finished doing the photographic honours for him with his second big bream of the day. I'd already spent much of the previous few hours running up and down the bank to photograph a variety of specimens for him ,including two roach an ounce under 2lb and a 4.5lb chub. In between all this exercise l had been struggling with a swim yhat kept running hot and cold . Alternating between float and swim feeder kept a few small fish coming between periods of inactivity but l was begining to suspect the prese3 points

I’ll take the gentleman’s.243 first, he just text me to say do you shoot rats because there’s bloody loads of them, I haven’t replied because it’s not something I’ve done since I was a kid, so I might have to pass that on to someone who likes a puff gun3 points

I had plans to give this young Deerhound bitch a spin on the white hares; Sadly it never came off, would have been interesting to see how she fared . Cheers.3 points

I have a few knifes in the drawer the same as most of us. But use the Opinel Carbon think it a No6 the stainless ones just don't hold the edge, they will rust if you leave them wet mind. I must have left countless knifes where I gutted rabbits some good old Lambs Foot ones at that. So an Opinel drilled a small hole bit of purse cord and a cheep carabiner clipped to a belt loop above the pocket works for me. My old man had a broken antique razor blade sharper like this it has a real fine stone and a strop. As I said it was broken so took the stone out and its spot on for s3 points

LOL?? Of course they haven't improved. The question is "how badly have they deteriorated?". Even back then a lot didn't work them regularly like good lurcher owners would. Most were probably run half a dozen times a year if that. I must admit I'm a fan of lurchers with deerhound blood and though most would disagree I still think they have a bit to offer to a certain type of lurcher. For a start, if you like a big dog they increase the size without losing overall "running dog" make and structure. If reared right the hybrids tend to have good feet and have a light bounding stride that he3 points

Amazes me how everyone is collie and bedlington lurcher mad.....not that there is anything wrong with them, but for daytime mooching the springer in there brings so much to the table.....no doubt they wouldn’t be for everyone. From a very young age mine showed a difference in her approach in the field to other lurchers and breeds I’ve worked. Don’t get me wrong she’s the only springer lurcher I’ve worked and maybe I just got lucky, but I went down this route for a reason. Most lurchers I’ve worked don’t hunt well enough for my liking, used to see old grannies walking pet springers that would2 points

Going back to the start of this thread, thank you all for your help and advice,I have decided and purchased the 22.250 on my ticket, a Tikka T3x Stainless, first outing after zeroing rifle the same day I nailed at vixen at around the 150 mark, put a central group of three round at 200 mtrs 2" group on a steel 8" target they all zipped right through the 1/4" steel plate so very happy with rifles performance, need better steel though. As for the Deer Calibre 243,to many hoops to jump through for me at this moment in time,in my book its all about enjoying the sport, the Deer even thought very2 points
