Symon 0
Hi All, I am trying to form an alliance to combat the problems with dog theft. What I propose is to form an alliance or club that together can combat the problem that many dog owners are experiencing with having dogs stolen. Some are stolen to order some are just stolen to make a bit of cash on the side, either way its wrong, and if we can combine in numbers then we can all help each other and make a significant difference to not only stopping this but all the associated effort that is required in locating and retrieving stolen dogs. This can mean help in lots of different ways such as helping each other protect our dogs from being stolen in the first place. Having our own database of named thieves and where they are, area's that they operate, help and support for its members who know where their dogs are but need help in retrieving them. The passionate working dog owner spends a great deal of time and effort in bringing a dog on, let alone breeding and caring for them only to have them stolen, to come home to find the kennel doors open and empty is a gut wrenching feeling that many are suffering from at the hands of these lower than low life ! In short what I am trying to organise is a membership only organisation that can protect what we all love! It’s our way of life/our passion! and we want to protect it. So I say lets join forces and form this club so that all may benefit. I have spoken too many about this that are already willing to join but we need more! If I can attain a decent number of prospective members then I shall firstly propose that we all meet and discuss the runnings of the club and what it shall do to aid its members that join. From there we can arrange a quaterly/6 monthly or annual meeting at various events at mutually agreed destinations that suits all members travel requirements. This club would not only serve the serious issue of theft, but can also serve as a social gathering of like minded individuals and expand our network. Can anyone that is interested please let me know either here on this topic, or alternatively PM me and I will get back to you. Thank you for taking the time to read this topic and I hope that it will prove to be beneficial to all that follows it up. Regards, Symon. Quote Link to post

Guest WILF
A noble idea, but just how would the "club" prevent the stealing of dogs and how would it find them again? What would be its aims when a dog was found and how would it "punish" the offenders.........and please, none of the vigilanti crap from folk. Just what would any joining fee or subs be paying for? WHAT ABOUT AN EXTRA COMMITTEE ON THE ALLIANCE FOR THOSE GIVING INFO TO POLICE OR R/USPCA ETC ABOUT PEOPLE WORKING DOGS? The penalty for those caught and other actions will be outlined to all that become members or indeed show up at the first meet! both myself and others have given a great deal of thought on how we can keep our members information and details safe from unwanted attention! all prospective members are to be vetted to establish their true motives. There will be a membership joining fee. What that fee will be is yet to be disscussed. We are all well aware of the law regarding hunting and this club will be very aware of the real threat that antis or informants can have on such a club so there will be strict guidlines in place to help ensure our safety. We are not a vigilante group this will only lead to problems with the police and as i have said we dont want to draw any un wanted attention to ourselves. That being said we will support each other and for example : if one of our members knows the whereabouts of his dog or dog's we will join forces to go and retrieve said animal or indeed animals but in a law abideing manner. If you had a stolen dog and 40+ guy's turned up at your door asking for the dog back you would be mad not to hand it over! this is power in numbers without using un lawful force. Its really a numbers game as the more members we have in the Alliance the more effective it shall be in helping to not only locate and retrieve stolen dogs but the more we can grow the more the thieving scum responsible will think twice before stealing dog's and theft of dog's WILL go down. This has got to be a good thing for us all and all will benifit. Lets get some numbers here so that we can give this Alliance a kick start!! Just state your interest here and if your in or out!! I will then PM you and put your username on my short list. Once the list is of reasonable size in numbers I will then post you all our first meet point. For those that do not wish to join then still post your comments here as all feedback on this topic is appreciated and encouraged. Regards, Symon. Quote Link to post

Just what would any joining fee or subs be paying for? Hi wilf please read on I think I have pretty much answered these questions for you but I would like to add: FEE!! This would be kept in a kitty by the Alliance Treasurer for funds with getting members together when needed! And we will also hold social events so funds would be needed to help make things like this happen. The fee amount is undecided at the moment but it will be decided once all members are together at our first meet, and all will have an input with this regard. We will build a local knowledge of thieves and when I say power in numbers this is what I mean! If we can build the club to a decent number of members we can then use our member’s ears eyes and other contacts within the dog world to our advantage! We will build a list of known thieves and their movements their contacts and this knowledge would be available to all our members. This is how you narrow down the search for stolen dogs. The punishment for offenders is not our primary concern but they would be listed with their name and address details and this information would filter through the entire working dog fraternity all that work/ breed /or show dogs would know who they were where they live and what dogs they have taken! It would be incredibly difficult for some thief with this black listing to ever shift stolen dogs! So they would be encouraged NOT to steal dogs again. We will also work along side other organisations like the FMWTC and local authorities when needed rather than blatantly breaking the law. Thankyou Wilf for your interest Quote Link to post
Symon 0
There was an idea on here recently of having a rep in a certain area. Whenever a dog gets nicked all the reps are messaged with details, they then in turn message all the members they cover. Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. If we all joined both lurcher and terrier lads think how many sets of eyes would be looking for those dogs. A small joining fee would cover the costs of providing all the reps with phones ect. We NEED to get something sorted, the amount of dogs getting nicked is sickening. It's something that is constantly on my mind even when im walking the mutts. These are good points Joe and I would just like to say that as Joe has said here this is open to all working dog owners Lurchers to Terriers and all are welcome and if we can get a good number of members then the power in numbers really will benifit all of us. Thankyou Wilf for your interest Sound good enough.........once you have thrashed out the details I think most people would be iterested in such an organisation. The punishment you describe, as in making the scumbags known to one and all, is the best punishment and the only one that would be really effective. Good sound ideas, I hope you can build on them and I for one would happily pay some subs to such a "club" Quote Link to post
Guest blackntan
WE ALLREADY HAVE THE MEANS TO COMMUNICATE, THIS SITE PLUS THE FELL AND MOORLAND, AND ALL THERE BRANCHES PLUS THE VARIOUS OTHER TERRIER CLUBS WERE BETTER TO PUBLISISE THE THEFT OF DOGS THAN ALL THE SHOWS THRUOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS, AND IN THE WINTER THIS SITE AND OTHERS LIKE IT , A GREAT IDEA SYMON BUT WHY NOT USE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MEMBERSHIP THATS ALLREADY IN PLACE Quote Link to post
Scallywag 78
What would this group do that Lurcher Search and Dog Lost don't do already? Not saying it's not a good idea, but there are 2 national organisations trying to respond to dog thefts as it is and unless you'd be doing something different maybe it'd be more effective to support what exists already?
